which mfx classic?

I'm shooting a black swan 3piece recurve.  57#@27".

I'll be using the 100 grain brass inserts and would prefer to stick with a 125 grain point.

The arrows must be at least 28" and I prefer not longer than 30".

Sooo, with 225gr up front would 500's or 400's be the best?   I'm shooting off a cavalier 300, no plunger, just some sealskin.

I'm thinking of going with 400's unless strongly recommended otherwise.

I'm also not terribly concerned about total weight.  I want at least 9gpp, but don't mind going to 600 grains total.

This will be my one size fits all set up, indoor 20yd, 3D, hunting of anything big or small, etc.

I think you are right on with 400s.  I would lean to 340s more so than the 500s

If you are draing the 27 inches as stated above then the 400s at around 28.5bop but if you are pulling 28 on that setup you will possibly need the 340 series. I found that with my setup ( 57 at 28 and I draw 29) the 400s would not spine with the 100 grn insert and 125 point actually had to drop down to just a 125 point to get proper spine, but that was 29.5 bop ,, wasn't happy with arrow weight so I acquired some 340s from the illustrious Katman.. and was able to get the insert and 125 point to spine.

I have a 55#@28.5..I use MFX 340's.  My arrow is 1.5" longer than yours and I am right at the edge of whether or not to use a 400.  I have yet to talk to a bowyer that does not like the sound of a 9gpp arrow design.

So with all that weight up front I would definitely be looking at the 400 series before the 500 series.

I shoot 29.5" 400's with a 125 gr pt and the standard insert out of a 55@28 recurve. I get good flight and penetration.

Definitely not the 500's.  I shoot 400's out of a 50# bow...52# at my draw with 250 up front.  did have to leave them 30 1/2" to get em to tune perfectly even though I usually shoot 20 1/2" arrows.  Comes out at 600 grains or 12 gpp.

I think that my experience with those shafts would have  me recommending the 340's if you are really going to use that much weight up front. 400's might work but you may need a lighter head to get them just right. I am also assuming your bow is actually center shot. If it is not then the 400's should be fine.

Thanks for all the input.  I went with 340s.  I'll have them in a few days and will bareshaft and fletch friday(just in time for a shoot on saturday)

I am shooting the 500's on my 56# BW at 27in draw and shoot a 28in arrow with our 100gr insert and 125gr pts, they weigh 520grs..  If I switch to 400's I have to cut them to 30in to get the same spine off my bow and they weigh 560grs.  Just depends on your centershot on the bow.  I would probably try the 400's to start, 340's will definitely be too stiff. 340's will need to be close to full length. I have an Axis 340 worked up for my 55# morisson recurve, full length, 300 total point weight, 3 5" shields with wrap, 637 grains, my hog arrow.

Mark's right, I shot 30 " 500's off my 53# Pronghorn. Using Muzzy's 50 grain brass insert and 145 grain BH and they fly nice

Bareshafted to beman 340's cut to 29.5 with 100 grain brass inserts and 125 tips.  They fly great.

I shoot 400's with 125 points and they work great out of my bow. It pulls 62 1/2 lbs at my draw length. they fly like darts.
