3 piece longbow, which one?
« on: January 09, 2009, 05:31:00 PM »
I've caught the bug and am looking at several different bows.  Pronghorn, Firefly, Dryad, Lewis Hollow, and RER.  Looking for any pros or cons anyone might have.  Thanks!

Pronghorn would be my choice, fast, no hand shock, reasonably priced,& Herb Meland is a top notch guy. Don't get me wrong all good bows but my money would go to the pronghorn.

Check out Kohannah bows the Elite.  He doesn't have it on his website yet but it is ready to be ordered.  I know he is working on a few in stock bows right now.  The Dryads are nice as well.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

I guess I am too old and set in my ways but....

If it is not one piece how can you call it a long bow?

Sounds more to me to be a combo, a hybrid, or something.  To me there ought to be one piece of wood as the core.  I can accept some laminations and maybe a built up handle.

Where is the source of 'official defintions' for traditional archery terminology???

I would go with the Pronghorn as well.  The Pronghorn is quiet, very good speed, no handshock, and super smooooooth.  You will not be disappointed with one.  Yes, I own one.

I am a big fan of the Lewis Hollow. Call Chris and ask him about the try before you buy deal. If you are not satisfied buy something else.
I am not sure you will find a better deal for the money, but that is just my opinion.

Check out our SXT.Its smooth, shoots as hard as a recurve, and is quiet to boot. You can add options(foam,Carbon) or go for the basics(bamboo). You can also make it as pretty as you please, with antler accents,or arrow inlays.Your choice. We have a few on our website to look at.It looks like you are to far from MI to hit the Kalamazoo show, or you could shoot several bows and find out what tickles you.

I would go with the Pronghorn as well. I think they are superb bows. I have eight or nine of them now. ( and I want more! )

Check out the Dryad Orion...
Getting older I tend to talk to myself but, at least I know that I am as smart as the one I am talking to.

I actually was just looking at the Zipper's the other day, they look good.  As far as the $1000 bows, too rich for me.  I bet they are great, just trying to keep it around $600.

If I was in the market for such a thing it would be a Horne. It doesn't look like a recurve with longbow limbs.

I am going to throw my vote out for the pronghorn as well. Herb is a great guy and makes an awesome bow. I just got a foam core longbow a few weeks ago and you could not ask for a better shooting bow.

ReR LX. I have had one for six months. 60" 50# @ 26" draw. For me the grip is perfect. You can only hold it in one way. It draws smother than my Fox Breed which is 45#. Over all this is the best shooting bow I own. Four customs and a Bear.

Least I mention it's one of the best looking bows I have seen. Period. Osage and East Indain Rose wood riser. All Osage limbs with Osage Veeners and antler tips.

Check out the Dryad orion 3p longbow.  I bought the 64" (i also bought the recurve limbs).  I clocked the longbow limbs 45# with a 1916 28&3/4" at 183fps off my fingers.  that is real quick.  ergomonics of the riser are spot on the money for me.

ya can get the longbow limbs and another set to boot for what ya well pay for some longbows.

nice bow
