Cedar Question
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:13:00 AM »
I'm looking to switch to cedars to shoot out of a 55lb longbow. I've always used 30" arrows, so what spine weight of cedars should I get? I've heard its better to be too stiff than too flexible, and I don't want to make a mistake and get the wrong ones. Thanks, Justin

If I were you I get a test pack from either Elite Arrows or 3 Rivers...I'm sure others sell them also I just don't know who...

That being said a 30'' arrow out of a 55# longbow I would be looking in the 65-70 range spine as a starting point.  But a lot depends how close to center your bow is cut.

What size aluminums do you shoot?  MY guess was 2018's

I use to use 2018 aluminums, but have been using CX Heritage 250's. So I'm guessing a 55-60 cedar would be too light at that length?

A 2018 Spines in at close to 70#...I would think the 55-60 would be a tad weak...But the 3Rivers test packs are like $35 for 2 arrows in 4 spine sizes....You always have those testers for the future and you can be confident buying expensive finished arrows or lots of shafts.

Cedars have spirit in them. I hope you enjoy them
Is it deer season yet?
