How do you deal with cabin fever?
« on: January 10, 2009, 01:37:00 PM »
It's that time of year again, most hunting seasons have closed and here in Ohio archery season is winding down  :(  .  Also the weather is pretty nasty around here at this time of year, cold and rainy  :help:

When hunting season ends, bow building season begins. When bow building season ends, back to hunting season.
I enjoy getting out in the woods this time of year looking for deer sign and for next years stand sites, soon shed hunting and just getting out no matter what the weather is. Pat

The best thing about retirement, other than being paid for breathing, is that when the Wyoming winter sets in, we now head for warmer climes. We will be in Arizona until mid March, then head to Texas to hunt javelina, then back to Wyoming in time to catch spring turkey season. Getting older has its advantages   :) !

This is the time of year that I catch up on some of the reading I've neglected. I currently have a couple of hunting books and several magazines sittng on my shelf that I haven't yet read.

Then, of course, this is the time of year to study the state game pamphlets and fill out applications for any out-of-state hunts one may be planning for next fall.

Getting ready for fishing, tying bugs and preping gear. I shoot in my garage and basement and will also concentrate on the "Honey Do List" so when turkey/trout season comes i'll be ready to go!

I dig a path in the snow to my bag target so I can at least still do a little practicing.

Buckeye,
Read a lot, snow shoeing, shoot in the basement, bunny hunting, visit Trad Gang, dream of all the past hunts, oh and work to pay for all those things I need for next years hunting.  Keep the spirit up, spring is on it's way:)

But seriuosly I just get out in it more..It's still tough at minus 30 and colder so I shoot in my shop at work. Otherwise I love to get on my horse and tour around inthe snow finding things to shoot at.

After bow season ends at the end of next month I'll be fishing bass tournaments pretty heavy.

I do not miss snow or cold weather at all.  Had enough of that in Alaska to last my lifetime.

Up here in snowy cold western new york this how I spend my free time in the Winter:

1. Shooting with a group of friends every Sunday morning no matter how cold or snowy. We keep score and at the end of Winter give out prizes.
2. Work on various projects around our Archery Club
3. Make arrows
4. Repair / Maintain my hunting gear
5. Started fooling around with snowshoes
6. Going to try some Winter Camping this year
7. Small Game hunting (if the drive down to camp isn't too bad)
8. Playing with my Grandson Outside
Not enough time to get bored. Wish I had even more free time in the Winter Months.
