I guess it's John Holzrichter - Kansas bowyer.
« on: January 10, 2009, 10:22:00 PM »
I traded with another ganger for a Badger takedown recurve that was supposed to have been made by John Holzerter. Anyone know anything about this bowyer? The bow looks great in the pictures. I had never heard of the bowyer before and can't seem to find anything about him on the web. Just curious if any of you know of this guy.

Oddly enough, I found a reference to a John Holzrichter of Wichita, KS who also makes a bow called the Badger. It looks very similar, but has single limb bolts instead of double. There is not much more information on this bowyer either. Is it possible they are the same guy?

It's a bow mystery!

John Holzrichter does make the Badger. He sometimes has single limb bolts(as does mine) and sometimes has two limb bolts. These are good shooting bows that are pretty quick for non-fastflight.
His phone number is 316-993-0858 if you would like to contact him.
My Badger has a set of 49# at 27" and a set of 60# at 27" limbs.

Thanks, Mike!

These limbs are supposed to be fast flight. The strings are D97. I don't really know why the original owner ordered them the way they are. One set is 58" and 50# while the other is 60" and 49". Not really enough difference in draw weight to make it worth spending the money on another set of limbs, IMHO.

Glad to hear they are good bows. I was a little hesitant to trade because I didn't know the bowyer and couldn't find anything under John Holzerter (the name posted in the ad). The only thing I could find about John Holzrichter was another bow ad for a Badger with single bolts. The profile for the riser was so close to the one I traded for, I figured it had to be the same bowyer.

Does Mr. Holzrichter kind of build bows on the side? As nice as they look, I would think he could sell a bunch if he did a little advertising on the web.

Thanks for the phone number and info. I really appreciate it.

Maybe he wanted a set of 58" and a set of 60" at the same draw and one turned out 1lb under.

John does build bows full time, he does not do alot of advertising. He mainly sets up a display of some sort at local shoots. He basically does his business by word of mouth. He builds a very nice shooting recurve. If you ever get the opertunity to see John shoot, he will probably be the best shooter you have ever seen!
You will be very happy with your new recurve.

Tom,

I suppose you are right, but two inches in length really isn't all that significant either, but to each his own.

Thanks, Dave. You wouldn't happen to know if he has an email address would you? You guys are really getting me excited about this bow. Thanks.

30coupe, I dont even think he has a computer. John is an older fella, but young in heart. With a great sence of humor. He likes to flip ya on the top of your head with his arrow if ya mess a shot up, I have been there a few times! John is a fella I will hold dear in my heart for as long as I am alive. If you can, I believe BowMike gave you his number, I know he would like to hear from you if you can give him a call.
Thank you. Dave

Thanks again Dave. I googled him. Looks like he has some archery trophies. I'll try to give him a call after the bow gets here. I also found a post on *********** where a guy had a custom longbow made by John. Looked like a real nice bow too. It appears he can make just about any kind of bow you want. Hard to find bowyers who make such a wide variety of bows.

Russ, John makes a terrific onepiece longbow. One of my friends has one and I always enjoy shooting it. It's very quick, smooth and quiet. John is a very friendly fellow and he is a terrific shot. Enjoy your new (to you) Badger!

I think it is one of John's Bows in the Opening Day Missouri Buck Thread.
He makes a nice bow and is a great guy!

Tom,

Yup, that is about the same bow I have coming. Quite a buck isn't it!
