TX Bow for Duck'n
« on: January 20, 2009, 11:13:00 PM »
A long, long while ago. Duck'n posted a thread asking about what TX Ebony is good for. I replied that its my favorite riser wood. You see, he had a TX Ebony tree in his yard that shed a pretty large limb. So.. he cut it up and sent it to me all the way from McAllen to Houston, which is a long way. We decided that I would build him a bow of the wood as a courtesy for sending it my way (it was a lot of wood). It took FOREVER to dry enough to make a bow but it finally did. We also decided that I would build the bow completely from logs that came from here in TX (Texans love stuff from Texas). So here is the TX bow with the riser cut from a tree in his own back yard. Now he and I have never met...this is a total TradGang deal.

First the raw materials

Now the finished product. Its 60" 53#@28" TX Ebony riser, TX Hill Country Cedar limbs, Osage accents.

Pretty cool story isn't it?

Bonner

Love the limbs!

You can use those tips for a spear if the hogs get too close, right?  :D

Well believe me all, I feel HONORED to own one of Dan's bows!  This is the first time I have personally laid eyes on it and I can't tell you how impressed I am.  I knew it would be really cool and Dan's work is very impressive but those pictures took my breath away!  Thanks again Dan and I hope to get together sometime and share a campfire...maybe even bloody that purty bow!

Bonner makes some great bows.  He has probably learned more about this stuff (and faster) than you guys can imagine.  A couple of years ago, he and I decided to make some self bows. That's how he got started. Now he is a full blown bowyer making incredibly fine equipment. The boy has talent!
