Glove suggestion
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:15:00 AM »
I have shot a tab most of my archery career, but would like to try a full palm design shooting glove.  My fingers are kind of sensitive.  I shoot a Martin Savannah [email protected]".  I like the looks of the 3Rivers Dura-glove.  I'd like to keep the price <$30.  Any suggestions? Thanks.

If your fingers are that sensitive, a glove isn't going to give you the same protection that a tab does.  So stay with the tab.

Just buy a damascus style glove for cheap and if you like the glove thing upgrade.  I just picked one up at a sporting goods store for 10 bucks.

If you buy the American Leathers full shot, you wont be upgrading or buying another glove. The nylon webbing on the fingers makes for super slick release, I have used the dura glove from 3Rivers, not even in the same ballpark as the fullshot. I have used and worn out about every glove on the market, you actually get what you pay for. If not buying a full shot, get the superglove, a damascus type with cordovan tips, a good servicable glove. Again, will last about half as long as the fullshot. Hope this helps.

Big Shot gives more protection than the Full Shot. I have both and the Big Shot is definitely thicker on the finger tips.

The Black Widow PDQ Super glove has finger overlays to protect fingers, but when broken in still a great feel to the spring.

I'll cast another vote for the Black Widow Super Glove.  I love the tip overlays.  This year I'm thinking about trying their new design that's supposed to stay put on your fingertips.  I forget the name of it but I saw it in the '09 catalog.  It seems I've developed a habit of pushing my fingertips against my chest to seat the glove before every shot.  I'd like to get away from that habit.

Big Shot gloves will give you more finger protection them any tabs I have shot.  Use to to shoot BW tabs for years, never felt comfortable shooting a glove until I tried the Big Shot and my shooting and anchoring improved dramatically, it just fits and works well for me.  Mark

The dura glove was a little too thin for me, shooting 55lb.

I actually moved on to a tab, and feel I'm much more in control of the shot, as compared to a glove.

I vote for the big shot also. I would recommand the Bufflo Big Shot because for me it did not streach. I also have the Elk Big Shot I use as a backup. I used those thinner gloves for a good many years. At least 3 a year. They streached out from my sweaty hand in a few sessions. I also think the fastflite serving wore out the tip overlays faster.
IMHO I believe the glove or tab is as important as the "feel" of your bow.

There are as my opions about what glove/tab to use as most others things in this sport.
Extremely personal as every archer
is different size, likes and dislike of hwat comfort should be.
I highly recommend the American Leathers Schulz-Insert Shooting Glove at 3 Rivers. $36.99. Will last almost a life time or more. Takes a few shots to break in, but I have never liked a better glove in 13 years of shooitng.
For lighter bows and on a budget I recommend Wyandotte Closed End Glove at 3 Rivers $9. I used to shoot this glove with 65# bows til I switched to above.

I keep going back to the Martin deerskin gloves. I usually get 1 size down and stretch it in. Super soft leather with a great feel. Big Ed
