Beautiful buck there Rod, congrats!

Pete, what the ... my god, those things look like a whole different species! I really love those big necked, heavy bodied bruisers with lots of mass. Evidently, you know where to find em.  :notworthy:
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Man those pics are amazing!!! It seems I need to move up north!

I shot my first deer in December.  It was a doe and I shot it with a gun, but I'm hooked and hopefully next year I can take my bow out.

I write this doe off as an opportunity to figure some good venison recipes.

Thanks for pics,
Keep'em comin

I am not the man...that title goes to Gene, Barry and Roger Rothhaar.  i grew up reading those guys. those humble guys have contributed so much to this great sport. any one of those guys could have sold out and become "ho's" of the industry like so many of these wanna be's you see on the outdoor channel, or these guppies you see on reeeltree paying big $ to kill a deer that has been pegged for them all summer long on the milk river. ever read Genes account of his pursuit of woody? (damn that sounds kinky) from what i recall he had several close encounters and then shot gun season rolls in and he still hadnt put that big deer down. many wouldve picked up the iron and shot that deer.  how many times have you watched a "reeelbark" video and one day the "pro" is out bowhunting but just cant seal the deal so the next day he goes out with a gun...what a joke.  is that all its about?? big horns?? to some it is. sad.  its awesome to come to a place like tradgang and escape that BS. to come to a place where its not about quantity or size but rather how you get it done.  AWESOME pics everyone!!  just called the weather man.  its ZERO degrees out.  its time to take the boys scouting and maybe find a shed.

I was sitting in a thin clump of brush, back against a smallish black locust tree. He came in from the right and 30 yds out. Outside my comfort zone. He then proceeded to walk away from me toward a treestand that I thought about sitting in that evening. I scrambled for my grunt tube and grunted three or four times progressively louder each time since he wasn't responding.

He finally stopped and turned around looking in my direction so I made a doe bleat with my hands cupped around my mouth in his direction. I also made a doe bleat with my head turned and a hand cupped around one side of my mouth to simulate a doe going in the other direction.

He started coming back my way! He was going to pass me on the right side so I got into position. If he got broadside he would be in my scent stream so I shot before he was quite broadside. He went <90 yds. I had still hit both lungs.

It was so cool how calm he was walking toward me. More often that not they come in alert for whatever reason. He is a beautiful, Kentucky, early season buck. Taken in Sept. Thanks to Jim and Becky H. who invited me to hunt at thier place.

For the love of the hunt.

Great photo`s one and all. Complete with a happy hunter with THE gleam in their eye.

There is a difference in the look on the face of a happy hunter who has killed a giant buck because they simply LOVE to hunt, and a "hunter" who has killed a giant buck simply for the glory of big antlers.

I can spot the difference with a glance, and I am sure you all can too!

For the love of the hunt!...the heart pounding, heart wrenching, never give up, love of the hunt!!!   :campfire:
