Shawn Leonard/James Wrenn/Others-Arrows
« on: January 25, 2009, 11:07:00 AM »
First I want to say it is nice to see JW posting again. Especially now that I have a lighter weight bow to shoot and need advice. I just traded for a 2004 RER recurve. I'm not sure if it is FF compatible or not. 47#@28". All Zebrawood. I got it from sticshooter and original owner was Greg Keith.
Looking for suggestions for hunting and 3/D arrows. I've been shooting 160 STOS with 125 steel adapters. I like arrows around 29 1/2" but I'm ready to shoot full length if thats what it takes.
Thanks. Mike Gerard  owlbait

Mike, I shoot a 47@28 recurve. I've had good luck with the cx100 black shafts, full lenghth with 175/200 gn points. they weigh in around 440gns. Unfortunatly cx has discontinued this shaft. I just got some easton lightspeed 500's . They are just a tad longer but weigh the same as my 100's . Ive been very pleased with these so far. I shot through my 3d course with them and the cx 100's and couldn't tell the differance. One big plus is they are quiet a bit cheaper than the cx 100's. Hope this helps. Don

Thanks Don. I forgot to mention I'm drawing @27 1/2". I know, I need to work on that "around" stuff. Sure is easier to draw consistent with this lighter weight bow.

Mike, I agree with the lighter weight. Ive had good luck with this setup on the 3d course and in the woods on whitetail and pigs. I'd still like alittle more lb's and mass arrow weight for a 250+ boar. give me a call if you want to talk arrows. Don 252 636 7665

Well for all my bows that weight I shoot 500 spined carbons.I tune all of them to shoot a 29" arrow and 125gn point for 3d and use 175gns for hunting.I just choose the shaft/brand for the weight I want to come out with. The Heritage is slightly stiffer than 500 so I use them cut the same length with 200gn points when I want a heavy arrow.I use the GT entradas for times I want a light arrow.Brands and shaft diameters don't matter to me because I tune by changing centershot to use the arrows I want.It makes things much easier when I can grap any bow I own and use whatever arrows are closest at the time if needed.  :D

Thanks JW. Are you using any of the brass inserts to put more weight up front or just using heads that weigh that much?

I have never used the brass inserts. My arrows are heavy enough for me without them.I use 125/135gn broadheads on aluminum adapters to get in the 175gn range for hunting.I prefer the glue-on heads over the screw-ins.I am just not a big fan of over heavy arrows like some are.

First off it is FF and if ya want to stay with the high FOC y can shoot a Heritage 150 cut to 28.5"s but you will need 325 grains or darn close up front. You could also go to a carbonwood 2000 cut to 28.5-29"s and get away with 250 or so up front. Shawn
