Skinning A Carbon Backed Longbow

Finally got my paws on some copperheads to work with and want to back my cousins Martin Bamboo Viper.The carbon is is not real smooth, there are faint vertical grooves on the carbon back.Can it be done with TB III or should I try another adhesive? Can it even be done?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Gotta get this done before the warm weather and fishing and 3d and so forth gets underway.Thanks, Izzy

I would think you could do the same method as putting them on the back of a glass bow.But I have wondered about putting them on a carbon backed bow myself.I would like to hear some input myself.I had thought about dressing up my carbon backed 21st Edge with some skins.

Don't see why carbon would be a problem. The hardest part of skinning a bow is getting up the courage to rough up the surface of the bow in order for it to take the adhesive. The TB111 is the only stuff I use. I'd give a call to the folks at Martin just to be sure though.

One of my hunting friends has a skin-backed ACX-CX.  Don't know whether he did it himself or had it done.  I'm planning to do the same to mine when I find the skins I like.

Orion, check out American Headhunters, I just got a pair of King rat snake skins. They are awesome! A little pricey at $70. but very nice

Thanks for the tip flatshooter.  Nice looking skins.  That Texas rat snake looks a lot like our Bullsnake, which is protected here, meaning it can't be in one's possession, even if it comes from another state.  And I'm not certain our game wardens would know the difference, if there is one.  I also plan to look for some at the K-Zoo expo this weekend.  Have used prairie and western diamondback rattlesnake skins in the past.  May have to do that again.  Do like the looks of that rat snake though.

It can be done no problem. You need to be very careful when roughing up the Carbon if it is not woven, then it is unidirectional and if you lift a strand you could have problems. This Centaur was done by Jim and the skins look awesome and they just happen to be Rat Snake.
