I need some help selecting arrows. I just made a deal on a bow for my father. It is a recurve, 44#@28", and he draws about 28". He won't be hunting big game, but may try for some birds or rabbits. So I was thinking probably 125gr up front. What would be a good starting point for aluminum and carbon shafting. Thanks for your help, Jonathan

35-55 traditionals will work full length with 125 up front weigh 420grns.

Vapor 2000's full length with a 125gr point
GT 3555's full length with a 175gr point (or a 50gr adder weight behind the insert and a 125gr point)

Both fly great from my 44# GM and my 47# Kanati

my dad shoots a 45lb long bow i made for him 28.5 to 29 in draw he shoots arrow dynamics nitro-light with a 125 tip on a 30 in arrow they fly great and fast

Anything .600 deflection or a little lighter in spine depending on the bow and string.

Another vote for 1916 aluminum if a fast flight string is used and an 1816 aluminum if a dacron string is used.

A 1916 is .623
An 1816 is .756
A Gold Tip 3555 is .500
A Vapor 2000 is also .500

I use Easton ST Epic carbon shaft. They work great on my 40-45 Hoyt Dorado(I have two sets of limbs.)
With 100 grain field points 40# it shoots 186 FPS.
Also using 4" feathers

i shoot
30" carbon force Radial weaves with 175 up front out of my 44# longbow. there my favorite arrow i have found in a long list. there nice and light 6.7 gpi so boils down to about 10g per pound for my setup.

Gold tip makes a 600 series carbon (can't think of the name ) but a great shaft. IMO definately go with carbon on the lighter shaft because of strength!!

I shoot Beman ics 500's from my Hoyt GMII which is 43# @ 28"
Beman Venture 500, or Bowhunter 500's. The same arrow. They shoot well.

I shoot a Black Widow in 44# at 28" and use 2016 Legacys and 3555 Gold Tips and both fly equally well. I just fletched some Legacys with 4" traditional cut feathers and will be trying them out. I have been using 5 or 5-1/2" feathers on my arrows.

We have a new Carbon Express .600, great for lighter weights, shorter draws or bows with very shallow shelf cut outs.
