Magnus Stinger Awsome!
« on: March 12, 2007, 11:59:00 AM »
So I am spring cleaning, decide to "test" an already good head, 125 grn Magnus stinger, 575 grn arrow, from a 60# widow

man I about dropped when this baby stuck in my test medium (square nosed shovel)

3 other well known heads blew apart, I had to hammer the stinger out of the shovel and it is still perfectly straight!!!!

Here is a Honda I killed last fall!!!  Simmons Head thru the onside quarter panel, thru the trunk area and buried in the offside quarter panel.  I killed it a few times with my 54 Cal Flintlock too!!!!  My buddy shot it a few times with Sonic heads and a Bowtech with VERY POOR RESULTS!!!!  The head was garbage.  You can see his holes.  Those Simmons heads leave a BIG hole.  For small game metal hunting, Stingers may be o.k., but for the truly large game metal, I recommend the Simmons line!  LOL!!

shots were an inch apart, go ahead give it a whirl---- please post your results!

only shot the ww, magnus and the 220 phantom

ww did OK, split apart at the tip and two blades bent, but basically still in tact

Now I could really care less what head you shoot specially if your favorite hollywood hunter shoots them, I,ve shot Magnus for a long time and have to say the stinger is the top of the line.
I'm more interested in there ability to preform, there is no rib bone in the world as hard as a good old #2 squarenose, this was just a simple try to destroy a head, go ahead, give a shot.

I've seen a lot of these tests and to be honest with you I think there is a variable that is rarely pointed out that affects the results.  I say this because the results can vary wildly from one tester to another with the same heads.

My conclusion is that "most" heads will hold up well to these types of tests "if" the broadhead is perfectly aligned with the shaft and spins perfectly, and then hits the target with the shaft directly behind the point.

I also believe that "most" heads will fail if they don't meet the criteria above.

Could be way off here, but I beleive there is something to it.

Stingers are great. I shot a whitetail at 12 yards with a 60 lb longbow, and the arrow went through bolth shoulders, and the deer dead in his tracks. I could not belive the penitration that broadhead had. The arrow was only 490 grains. When I went to re sharpen the stinger all I had to do was swipe it a few times over the steel and BAM razor sharp again. I could not belive how strong these stingers are. I was sold !!!!!!!!
