Permanone anyone?
« on: January 28, 2009, 03:09:00 PM »
Gene and I are leaving for the first of our five Texas Pig-Gigs tomorrow morning. Yesterday I stopped in Wal-Mart to buy a couple cans of Permanone. For those who aren't aware of this great stuff, you spray it on your clothing (not your skin)and it repels/kills ticks and chiggers when you're walking thru the brush. One application lasts a couple weeks and is supposedly good for several launderings. Excellent stuff. It normally sells for $6.48 a can at Wal-Mart. When I'm checking out yesterday the gal rings it up at $1. a can. Being the honest guy I am, I asked her if that was right. She said even though it wasn't advertised/marked as a sale it was an "off season sale". $6.48 a can for $1. I went back and bought every can on their shelf (11)before anyone changed their minds. Anyone who uses the stuff maybe should check their local Wal-Marts. Camping Dept. Have the gal scan the price before you check out. Just thought I'd pass along the sale of the century. I'm always trying to look out for you guys. Me and Wal-Mart... Always. :>) BW

Good deal!!!  Thanks Barry...I will definitely take a ride to Wal-Mart for that deal.

Btw:  I had a horrible case of the chiggers last season - felt like they'd never go away!!!  I swore that I wouldn't let it happen again.  It was brutal!

Appreciate the heads up and enjoy those Pig Gigs!  Wish I was going...

Thanks Barry. That is great stuff! I will check with Walmart tomorrow. When I used that in tick infested areas I could see the ticks falling off my clothes and dying. One spray was usually good fot two weeks even though the clothes were washed in between.

I've been using "permanone" or permethrin for at least 18 years. I buy about 8 cans a year. I not only treat my clothes (outer garmets) I also spray my truck carpet, seats and bed liner after cleaning deer or hogs.  Sulfur powder aka "flowers of sulfur" will keep the chiggers off of you, put powder in a sock, dust yourself from the ankles up to your waist.

Nice bargain, but be very careful when using/applying permethrin.  It's pretty potent stuff.  Some old timers believe that if used in excess it'll make you old, gray, chubby and wear your hat crooked.....not that there's any proof of that.

Barry thanks for the info. Does Permanone have permethrin in it? It is the only thing that rep els deer ticks 100%. I hunt WI which I think is the capital of Deer ticks, but man does it work.

Yes, permethrin is the active ingredient in it. The brand name is Repel Permanone. Comes in a blue and orange spray can. Good stuff. bw

Barry, thanks for the heads up. I knew you had been in chiggers before when I saw the duck tape around your ankles in the armadillo chase scene on the spirit of the bow. thats my alltime favorite dvd. I get the feeling that yall might be just a tad full of sh*****t. DB

Was thinking about getting some tomorrow. Won't hit the brush without it.

One year at the Texas Sweat the ticks and chiggers were exceptionally bad. I made a believer out of a bunch of guys. I never had a one and the other guys were miserable.

Like a good friend I let them know about the stuff right after the hunt was over.
