The best squirrel call I have ever used was one of the whistles. Never made a squirrel call though. I'm interested also.

Good one Jerry. lol.

Be carefull with these squirrel calls as not to sound like some kind of squirrel nanny, or they might place their youngs directly ontop of your hunting arrows - as it happend to me in South Africa (Nov. 2005):

The Mr Squirrel call can be made fairly easy by taking two large fender washers with small holes and the same size neaphreme washers(found at LOWES)Three or four usually work. Drill out the neophreme ones to make a hollow center.First tape around them with electric tape and glue them together when they sound right to you.  Some experiment will make these guys work really well. Draw your breath and blow alternately. If you are camoe"d good shake a branch and whistle. then sit perfectly still. Get ready

I use a Quaker Boy mouse squeaker-2 handed-1 hand squeezing the bulb and the other hand over the end of the part with the squeaker to control the noise ---volume and tone.Drives the squirrels nuts-and sometimes a fox comes to see what is making all the racket.   Elf.

My dad use to hit/rub two acorns together to make em sound like a squirrel bark. Pretty sweet.

allpredatorcalls.com has hawk calls that can be used to make the squirrel freeze . Primos makes the one I have. I have also heard of people using two nickles and clicking them together to make them bark or come in .

I've used 2 empty 20 gauge shot gun shells and tapped the brass ends together. Sounds like a tree rat opening up a acorn. Brings them in pretty well for me so far.

True story.  I bought a true talker call this year because the commercial hooked me. It did get a buck curious enough to get himself shot but that is a story for another thread.  The most successful calling the true talker did this year was to bring in squirrels.  Three different times, three different stands, three different squirrels all while deer hunting.

The first one I thought was a fluke.  It was just after sun up and the woods were coming alive when I hit the call softly a few times.  A couple minutes later a squirrel climbs up the cedar tree in front of me to see how a buck got up there. He comes up almost level with me as I sit really still and watch him.  He leaves shortly and I hit the call again a half hour or so later and the bugger comes back up the cedar in front of me.  He is looking at me like Bubba looks at a bottle of wine.  Not sure what it is or what to do with it.  I brought this one back a couple more times that day.

The other two are similar to the first one so I won't bore you with the details.  I'll just say that after 9 or 10 years hunting I have never had any luck using a call until the squirrels started responding.

I can't wait to hit the woods next year and see if it brings in the squirrels again.
