CE Heritage 250 Chart

I'm curious to see if anyone has looked at the CE "hunting arrow shaft selection chart" on their site?  It says that for a 52#-57# bow with a total arrow length of 30" I should be shooting the 350s! I thought those would be way too stiff! Infact, the 250s need 100gr. inserts with 125gr. tips to tune well. Their chart says the 150s are recommended until you get down to 36#-39# bows...? I wonder what weight tip they are suggesting with these recommendations too.

The arrow chart is waaaay too stiff for my bows . In the 45-52 lb weights I have better luck with the Heritage 150's . Shooting between 125gr. and 225 tip weight . Only bow of mine  that shoots Heritage 250's is a 55 lb. Bighorn Recurve . FLINTHEAD

I am shooting the 250's with 100gr inserts and a 125 grain head out of a 52lb Widow PSA and they shoot great. I have a 28" draw and the arrows are cut to 29 1/4.

Has any one played with the CX weight adjustment chart.  My recurve is 54@28.  I draw 29. arrows cut at 29 3/4.  350 were way to stiff.  I bare shafted the 250's with standard insert and 125 gn head.  I am now fooling around and have a couple of the 250 with 100 gn insert plus 125 and 145gn heads.

That's what I have found also guys. I shoot a 55# recurve and get great arrow flight with the 250s if they have the 225gr upfront. You would think that these shaft companies would want people to be happy with their shafts. The only way to do this is to PROPERLY recommend a shaft that will shoot well out of their bows!

I am shooting the 250's out of a 55#@29" recurve.  I draw 29", and have the 100 gr inserts with a 150 gr broadhead on a 30" finished arrow, and they shoot well. Jonathan

I am shooting the 250's out of my 57@29 widow with 100 grain inserts and 150 heads on 30 1/4 shafts shoots great

The chart was bad off for me, too.

I shoot 150s out of my 47# longbow (chart called for 250s). I draw to 30", the shafts are cut at 31"....with standard insert and 125gr. point they are on the very edge of being too stiff. 145gr. points are better.

Everyone is right about the chart recommending arrows that are too stiff. The CX350 requires a fairly heavy draw weight (like 60+ pounds) and lots of point weight at the front of the shaft, even with a 31" shaft length like I shoot. For the standard inserts and 125 to 150 grain points, the CX150 is the right spine for what most TradGangers shoot. Those who shoot 50+ pounds and 30" plus shafts are probably going to be moving into the CX250 territory, especially with 100 grain brass inserts and 150 grain or heavier points. Of course, different bows tune differently, especially if they are not cut to or past center.

I really like the CX Heritage shafts, but I need a spine somewhere between the 150 & 250 for the length of arrow & point weight I like to shoot from my longbows. I don't care for the skinny Beman MFX Classic shafts, either. Anyway, I just got some of the new "Traditional Only" woodgrain pattern carbon arrows made by Easton from 3Rivers Archery in size 400. They're just what the doctor ordered. Their spine falls between the CX Heritage 150 and 250. They only weigh 9.1 grains per inch so I installed the 3 gpi weighting tubes.

In defence of carbon express, you really do have to use the "adjusted weight chart" on their website to make any reference to the selection guide valid. For example, the adjusted weight for my 53# comes out at 44# for which the chart recommends Heritage 150's. This is what I use with my 53# Whip, std inserts and 145 tip. Fly perfect.

Skarcher you are correct. With my 54 I ended subtracting 9 # reducing my bow to 45 which but it right on the edge of 150-250..

start with the pdf on the left do calculations and then use the chart in the middle (the red one)
I shoot 54@28 have a 29" draw.. my 250 are cut to 29 3/4".
I have been fooling around with regular inserts, 100gn inserts and weight tubes along with the test kit bare shaft. My arrows weigh any where from 495gn to 635
2 bare shaft = 495gn
2 of the 250's = 635gn with weight tubes
1 of the 250's 505gn no weight tubes
All 5 of these arrows have 125gn head and 12gn CE aluminum insert

1 250's with 100gn brass insert with 125gn head = 573gn
1 250 100gn brass wiht 145 head = 593gn

this is typical at 20 yards using the mix of the above arrows. It is actually 2 groups the top one was getting a bit crowded.

I shoot the exact same arrows as above but with 100 gr. insert out of my 54 lb. bows. Think i might try 145 today though to see how they fly from further out. I think 250 with a bit longer arrow should work fine

I went back to the site and this is what I came up with:
250s  recurve 55#..........................-6
insert & screw-in 145gr. screw-in pt.......-4
*(only because that is the heaviest on their list)
Arrow length over 26"......................+2
Finger release.............................+3
                        total adjustment...-5
    Looking at the chart for 50# bow with total
arrow length of 30" it says to go with the HE 250s. That said, there is no way that arrow will tune for good arrow flight with just 145gr upfront! Not unless they have 36" shafts! lol

I missed the finger release add on.  I think you need to know to use both charts is conjunction with one another.Your correct using just the one chart and they are way to stiff.

So how do your bare shafts fly ??

You'd be amazed at how much differnt tip weight you can use with the same arrow from the same bow just by adjusting NP and how much side build up ya have.

I just dug the chart out this past weekend and think it's not terrible compared to some.

Some of it is dependant on the operator as well...check your bare shafts they should fly straight

I can't see where they tell you what point weight the chart is based on...? I use 225gr tip weight for the 250s. I don't think they did!

well guess what I'm shooting a Robertson Falcon 64lbs@29  at my draw length i'm pulling 58#. I am getting great arrow flight  with HE250 with a 145grn field point. Arrows are 28 inches long. P.S. just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for you

They do not go above 145 gn.  
I quess once in the ballpark its up to the operator to go figure it out.

I am getting great flight with various weight up front up to 225gn. I have the ability to go up to 350 gn. I will give it a try and let you know.  All of this is shooting at 20yards.
