Found out something about myself
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:50:00 PM »
Last few days of this years season and in Sept. & Oct. passed on a lot of shots and now wish I had something in the freezer. Got home from hunting and 3 doe walk up in my yard to eat my bushes. Took my bow out and walked up to 12 yards and went to full draw. They just stood half tame.
Couldn't do it. I want to hunt not kill. Soon as I let down it just became so apparent that I hunt for more reasons than meat.

I feel exactly the same way. I live in an area where we have wildlife in the yard on a frequent basis (rabbits, deer, squirrels,etc...) and I refuse to shoot anything in the yard. I enjoy the hunt, and don't get me wrong, I want to take something home when I go out into the woods, but that's the point...I want to take something home "when I am hunting for it". I enjoy seeing the wildlife as much as I enjoy hunting for it. Many times I have walked out of the woods behind the house after hunting to see animals, but it's never been in my interest to draw back in that situation. I'm not trying to belittle anyone who does, to each his own, I am just stating it's simply just my preference for myself.

I agree.. If killing was what really mattered we would all hunt with a 30:06...

Congratulations.  :clapper:    It's a good felling isn't it?  I had a very similar experience three years ago with a doe in the back yard feeding under an apple tree.

Paulie, Have had deer in our back yard. I couldn't kill them. Ilike to meet them in their territory. Good move
