I'd sure like to hear the story too... Looks like a possible high hit, if so, did it make for a tough recovery ?

Great buck, congrats..

Howdy guys,

My ears were burning  :)
Too cool to be "UP TOP"
November 2008.

Jason from Alaska had been down here hunting for a week around the end of October. Since I had hunted with him for a solid week I had to go back to work for a few days and catch up with the family ect...

The first morning I got to hunt after Jason left was about the first week in Nov. It was drizzling, windy and about 50 degrees. The treestand was located on the intersection of two trails at the corner of a clover field. About 15 minutes after shooting light I rattled and grunted. Not 3 minutes later a nice 8 point walked to within 45 yards and hung up for about a minute. He kept looking my way but wouldn't commit to come my way. I almost grunted at him but didn't want to startle him. He finally moved off out of sight. I was a little discouraged because he was an older nice frame 8 I would have been happy with.

It started raining.

I took the arrow off my bow and stuck it back in my catquiver to keep the feathers dry.

The rain stopped about 15 minutes later and I hit the horns together a few times.

A bigger, better buck pops out onto the trail in front of me looking for the source of the noise. I stand up and get an arrow ready. He stops in the very same spot the 8 had stopped. There he is at 45 yards for what seemed like FOREVER.
This is the best buck I've seen all year. He looking down my trail but wouldn't commit. Finally he breaks down the trail the other buck had taken (wrong way) out of desperation I give him a short loud grunt. He stops, looks my way and keeps going the wrong way. I grunt again the same way and like magic he turns around and starts walking my way!!

At this point I see the other side of his rack and notice the small droptine. He slowly walks to my trail and passes under me at 12 yards.

I drew the Blacktail, picked a spot, (I think) and the release just happened.

Crack! the arrow buried in behind the shoulder at a steep downward angle. He loped off into the field and behind some trees about 5 or 6 seconds later I see him rear up and fall dead in sight.

He was a mainframe 9 with a 3 inch kicker on the left side. You can barely see it in the pick cause my hand is behind it.

Great buck, sounded like a great hunt and shot, try to keep the secret of east and north texas big deer quiet not many people know about it yet from what I can see.  ;)
