1st Goose!!
« on: February 02, 2009, 10:27:00 AM »
I'm about as fired up as I've ever been!  A buddy called in these geese for us over decoys and we hit 3 of them at about 30 yards on the wing.  I've dreamed about this hunt since I was about 14 yrs old and it feels good to get it done.  We were hunting with 5 other guys with shotguns and they did blast them after us, but i'm counting it!  It was so much fun!

Fantastic!  I see you didn't use flu-flus.  Did you recover any arrows?

Congrats.  I tried it once with flu-flus but they were a little to high.  Save the wing feathers for fletchings.

Great shooting - I got my first one with a fishing arrow and a reel when I was 12. I was shooting pike and this goose came right up the eddy. I didn't even hesitate, I just drew and let fly. Well the arrow flew true and under the wing and through the otherside and thn the fight was on...FULL ON.

It was flapping around and me trying to reel her in...she was PISSED....and not dying fast at all.

I pulled her up outta the water and she was running right at me hissing and flapping her wings.

I dropped the bow and ran backwards...wish there had been a video of this one. I ran and grabbed a big stick and clubbed her one and she was down.

About that time I had to clean my shorts. I put her in my backpack along with a couple of pike I got and I was off home.

Dad freaked. He couldn't believe I got it with my bow, but she tasted great.

Justin, That is too cool bud!! That's something I've wanted to try for years!

I even won some goose calls in last years ST. Jude action, bought some cheap but good BH to put on some wood arrows...Now I just need to find the place to do it
