New archer with the fire
« on: March 12, 2007, 11:12:00 PM »
Hi All, I have a nephew that is all fired up about archery. I gave him a bow and made a string for it and an old longbow he already had. He is really excited. It's fun when the fire is so bright. I need to make him an elevated rest for the one bow. It is an old recurve with a flat shelf. I remember reading about home made ones out of plastic on here but I can't remember what they were being made out of. Does this ring a bell with anybody? I thought I would teach him how to make as much stuff as possible himself because he doesn't have a lot of money and I think it is more enjoyable to make your own equipment. Maybe I should go check the how-to section also. Anyway, it looks like I have an up and coming archer to mentor.

The arrow rests were made out of old plastic display racks that hold bags, batterys on cards and other things, I think it was George Stout that was making them. maybe he still has some pics

That was it Mac. I just couldn't remember what plastic was working. I'm sure there are some other things that would work also.

You might try a small piece of leather glued to the shelf just above the deepest part of the grip. Maybe 1/4"Wide X 3/8" Long, and 1/8" or so thick. Cheap and effective.
