Decatur Alabama - Feral Hogs Trad Hunt?
«

I am thinking about trying a feral hog hunt with my recurve around the Decatur, Alabama area as I have some relatives in that area.
Anyone close to this area that could give advice or maybe hunt with me?
I was thinking of the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge, but from what I see, it doesn't look like a lot of animals were taken.
Thanks!

There are several trad shooters in this area. When will you be in the area?

i hunt wheeler alot. the season for hogs follows the deer season. i killed 2 good size hogs this season. i know another guy that killed 6. i think the problem is alot of the guys dont call in and report their harvest. but it is a great place to hunt. i live about 8 minutes from the refuge so i bowfish there and do most other hunting there.

since hog hunting is closed at wheeler now. it would be a good idea to talk with land owners around hartselle and moulton. i have heard the populations are growing there...and since theres no closed season on private lands, im sure land owners want them gone:)
on a side note, we are also starting to hunt them around pulaski,tenn...where they crossed state lines right around minor hill,al. they are moving everywhere

Retirement is great, but I am getting a little bored. I cant wait for the shoots to start.
Why is Wheeler closed. I thought we could hunt thru Feb?

I'm not sure when I might get down there, there's a possibility I could be there in March

I grew up around Hartselle and Decatur. No hogs there in the 70's. Still got family there, but haven't heard anything about hog hunting.

yeah they have been around there for a couple years. you can go into allens archery shop in decatur and talk with the guy who hunts in decatur and hartselle. he has quite a few pics up. i guess when a population gets started its hard to get rid of them.
