My new Morrison ILF with pics
« on: February 06, 2009, 01:19:00 AM »
I just got my new 60” Morrison ILF longbow.  This bow has a 16” low grip riser that is Chechen and Purple Heart.  It has D limbs that are carbon backed and foam core with eastern diamond back skins.   It is 41# @ 28” at the maximum draw weight. I will use that weight for hunting.  But for now my husband has it set at 38# @ 28”, which I prefer for target shooting and for the 3D leagues.  My draw is 27 ½ to 28 inches.

The quiver is a 5 arrow Thunderhorn Lynx that matches the Purple Heart in the riser pretty good.  We really like the way these quivers put the arrows in line with bow instead of having the fletching sticking out in front.

The arrows are Easton aluminum 2013 jazz shaft.  They are cut to 29 1/2 “ with a 150 grain point.

I have been shooting now for 6 months and have become a pretty good shot.  My husband got a (40# @ 28” Zipper that is an awseome shooter) bow for me, so we could shoot and hunt together.  I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea, but that has changed.  I try to shoot every day and can’t wait until the day of the 3D league.  I am the only woman that shots in our traditional league.

There is a story behind me getting this bow.  My husband had ordered 50# @ 28” ILF carbon/foam limbs with eastern diamond back skins to go on a Morrison Mini 14” riser that we already had.  In the meantime while he was waiting for the limbs to be made, he ran across 2 Dale Dye Medicine Points, that he had to have.  After buying and shooting the 2 Medicine Points, my husband told me that he could only shoot one bow at a time and thought that if it wasn’t too late, maybe we could get the Morrison for me.

He told me to call Mr.  Morrison and see if his limbs were ready, and if they weren’t to see if he would let us get a lighter set of limbs, so that I could have the bow.  Well I called and the limbs were finished and Bob said that he had been trying to get the skins on the limbs for a couple days, but hadn’t had the time yet. I asked about getting a lighter set of limbs and he said that it would be fine, because he wouldn’t have any problem selling the 50# limbs. Lucky for me, the skins weren’t on the 50# limbs yet or we would have just bought them and I would not have asked about getting the lighter ones.  Now that I knew I could have the limbs, I wanted a 16” riser instead of the 14” camo dipped one we had at home (which we sold to help finance buying this one).  Bob had the 16” Chechen and Purple Heart riser in stock & I knew that was what I wanted (I love purple).  And luckily there were limbs in the weight that I wanted, in stock too.  I think it was meant to be.

When the package arrived my husband opened it and you should have seen his face.  After he shot it, you could tell that he was starting to think that he made a big mistake and then he said said “No man in their right mind would let their wife have this bow.”  Good thing I had my name put on it.

Mr. Morrison builds a great bow that shoots as good as it looks.  Bob thanks for everything and a big thank you to my husband for getting me into traditional archery.

You put together a great bow, Mary. You will love shooting it. I was wondering who would end up buying that riser. I realize now that particular wood combination was made for a woman. I could never get excited about it for me, but I finally know it was because I am not the right gender. It is perfect for you with that nice Lynx quiver filled with pretty, girly arrows. And the skins make it as exotic as a Gucci purse! Enjoy it.

That is beautiful Mary, the bow and the whole rig.

I better not show this thread to my wife or I'll be calling Bob!

Sweet bow! Congrats! Just make sure he doesn't see the thread on how to remove a name from a bow.    :biglaugh:

Hey, your snow has all melted in MO! That is a great bow Mary. I love the story and especially the last part about having your name put on it - smart move.
