Wood arrows for ACS-CX ???
« on: February 07, 2009, 10:40:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm expecting my new ACS-CX in the next week or so. I don't think it will make much of a difference, but I ordered it with the "RC" riser.

My bow should be 62" 55# @ 28". I draw just short of 27 1/2". Because it's cut so far past center, do you think I'll need something in the 70-75 range or do you think I can get away with 65-70's?

Right now I shoot 60-65's out of my 55# @ 28" Kanati.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, build out the strike plate a bit and you will  still need 70-75s at least. If the arrow is 28.5"s or 29"s you may even need a tad more. My 50# at 28"s was 52#s at my draw and it ws cut just to center and it shot a 29.5" 75-80# spine with 125 head perfect. Shawn

Joe, I've just spent the last couple weeks tuning a new high performance cut past center Firefly and I can tell you I've been shocked at the spine I need.  I draw a bit over 28" but I was estimating I'd need 65-70's or 70-75's, right now I'm at 90-95's and finally getting real close.

Point of all that is you might need more than you think.

Try what you have before you start buying new arrows. My 60# ACS shoots a wide spine range well. Easiest bow I ever have to tune.

Absolutely wood is wonderful in your ACS CX. That's all my son and I shoot. Do the bareshafting bit and follow some of the tips here on this post-you will need 70-75 plus, depending on your length, sidewall and tip weight.

I agree that you'll probably need 70-75# spine.  My 64-inch ACS is 52#@28, which is what I draw.  I built out the strike plate just a little so the right side of the arrow at the point just meets the plane of the string when viewed from behind.  Set up like that, it will shoot woodies from 60# to 75-80#, and probably higher, but I don't have any stiffer than that.  I mostly shoot 75#, give or take a few pounds.  Good luck.

Thanks, I've got a few dozen 70-75's and 75-80's. Maybe I'll make a dozen of each and see which works best.

I very much appreciate the help!

Thanks Again,
Joe
