After the hinge is installed on the bow and you saw the bow in half, what is the best material to fill the gap of the saw cut with?

Anyone experience any noise from them?

The reason I was wondering is...

I'm getting a clunky noise on every shot. Thought possibly the arrow was hitting the shelf/handle, but I've tried several diferent spines, moved the nock and brace ht. Ihave another bow almost Identicle to it but not a T/D so the setup should be real similar.

But...If I pull the string back 3-4" and let go (no arrow) I get the same clunk/pop.

Sounds like the hinge is opening up and snapping closed.

Is this normal and it is just the material(wrong stuff) used to fill the saw cut that makes the noise, or do I have a real real problem other than changing the filler material.

It should not do that unless you have a real low brace height on the bow.It can happen when a bow does not have much preload at brace.More so if you are useing a b-50 string.jmo

Its a 68" Hill style, FF, moved BH around between 6.5-7" range, wont go away.

How heavy are your arrows? the hinge will make noise if your arrows are too light and especially with a long draw length. It is snapping open/closed slightly causing a clicking sound. If heavier arrows will not stop the noise you can use a cushioning material on one side of the riser, cork gasket material works well.

My arrows are 10+GPP. Have tried some 12.5 GPP, it did help a little. I draw 29.75". I'll look in to finding some cork gasket.

When I build mine I use a .050 hand saw to cut the bow in half and replace that saw cut with a piece of .030 fiberglass on one side and .040 cork gasket material on the other side, the extra .020 plus two glue lines is for compressing the cork. You can buy the cork gasket in 9x11 sheets at most auto parts stores. Only had the clicking with bows heavier than 60# and long draw guys.

Both of my Robertson's have cork as a filler as described by Vince, neither makes any noise.

I second on the cork, 3 Robertsons and a Heritage with a connexion between my son and myself, all quiet from 57# to 67# with 500-700grain arrows.

What you are hearing is the recoil thump of the limbs pulling the hinge back and forth. Not the best system in my opinion. Relies  on the shear strength of  few small screws. Fred bear had a discontinued system very similar to robertson's hinge.

Like Spanky, I also have a Liberty, English model, and no noise at all. It is the best fit of the bows that I have owned with the hinge system.

I had the same problem and solved it using strips of very thin cat whiskers glued to the bottom face of the joint.

On mine, I put .030 glass on each end of the cuts and then covered with very thin pigskin leather.  No noise out of a 60#r
