Looks like Gen 27:3 is already taken.  Make that two votes then.

II Samuel 1:18 (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow; behold it is writen in the book of Jasher).

That's what the KJV says, other versions say something else.

The Gen 27:3 verse sounds good...but when you take in context it doesn't show the passion for hunting too positively. As you recall that son, Esau, loved hunting and other things of the flesh more than his birthright as the firstborn son. He traded it for a bowl of stew. He was so hungry he didn't care about his birthright, just about his hunger. So, he lost being the leader of the family by trading his birthright, showing complete disregard for the spiritual blessings that would have come his way....sorry, I just think about this everytime I see this verse.

The Gen21:20 sounds good, until you read the chapter. It pertains to Ishmael who along with the tribe of Ishmaelites were hostile to Israel and to God...?

I like Ps 127:3,4,5 "Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands.How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!"
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

I like them all. When ever I think about Gen 21;20 which if im not mistaken is the first time that archery or a bow is mentioned, I think of God showing Ishmael how to build a bow and arrow and how to shoot it. I bet that first bow was a Awesome bow. Just my 2 cents.

Take care

The rain bow, is the first laminated bow.

These really speak to me and give me hope and strength in the Lord of host.

Cant wait to stump shoot with king David, Johnathan, Joshua, Etc.......

2 Samuel 22:14-16

 14 The LORD thundered from heaven;
       the voice of the Most High resounded.

 15 He shot arrows and scattered the enemies ,
       bolts of lightning and routed them.

 16 The valleys of the sea were exposed
       and the foundations of the earth laid bare
       at the rebuke of the LORD,
       at the blast of breath from his nostrils.

Habakkuk 3

 1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth .

 2 LORD, I have heard of your fame;
       I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD.
       Renew them in our day,
       in our time make them known;
       in wrath remember mercy.

 3 God came from Teman,
       the Holy One from Mount Paran.
       Selah
       His glory covered the heavens
       and his praise filled the earth.

 4 His splendor was like the sunrise;
       rays flashed from his hand,
       where his power was hidden.

 5 Plague went before him;
       pestilence followed his steps.

 6 He stood, and shook the earth;
       he looked, and made the nations tremble.
       The ancient mountains crumbled
       and the age-old hills collapsed.
       His ways are eternal.

 7 I saw the tents of Cushan in distress,
       the dwellings of Midian in anguish.

 8 Were you angry with the rivers, O LORD ?
       Was your wrath against the streams?
       Did you rage against the sea
       when you rode with your horses
       and your victorious chariots?

 9 You uncovered your bow,
       you called for many arrows.
       Selah
       You split the earth with rivers;

 10 the mountains saw you and writhed.
       Torrents of water swept by;
       the deep roared
       and lifted its waves on high.

 11 Sun and moon stood still in the heavens
       at the glint of your flying arrows,
       at the lightning of your flashing spear.

 12 In wrath you strode through the earth
       and in anger you threshed the nations.

 13 You came out to deliver your people,
       to save your anointed one.
       You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness,
       you stripped him from head to foot.
       Selah

 14 With his own spear you pierced his head
       when his warriors stormed out to scatter us,
       gloating as though about to devour
       the wretched who were in hiding.

 15 You trampled the sea with your horses,
       churning the great waters.

 16 I heard and my heart pounded,
       my lips quivered at the sound;
       decay crept into my bones,
       and my legs trembled.
       Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity
       to come on the nation invading us.

 17 Though the fig tree does not bud
       and there are no grapes on the vines,
       though the olive crop fails
       and the fields produce no food,
       though there are no sheep in the pen
       and no cattle in the stalls,

 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
       I will be joyful in God my Savior.

 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
       he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
       he enables me to go on the heights.
       For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.

Hi Falk, well it's really 66 books wrote over about a 4,000 year period.

It's really great reading, even better if you can apply the teachings there in.

Archery is found in all the major religions. Christian, Judaism (Torah means "take aim" and AL Chet means "to miss the mark"), Muslim/Islamic(Mohammad was an archer and even says in the Koran to teach your children to read and shoot), Shinto(bows and arrows are used in rituals), the teachings of Confucius, etc. Perhaps we should start arguing the religious right of archery/hunting in future battles.

I've read more than one good book but only one Good Book myself.

So, does believing in a certain faith mean that one is neither educated nor a free thinker? Some might say that presumptuousness indicates close mindedness and restrictive thought.

Never had i thought i'd discuss the bible on TG, but here goes.

Quote
It pertains to Ishmael
Indeed, Ismael is seen by the Jews as bad, (mainly) because he is to be the father of the moslems, (and "whose decendants will kill jews") Nor is he Abrahams own. Also is he accused of idolatry.

Anyway:
17:20 "As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly"
21:20 "God was with him",
21:9 "Abraham loved Ishnail as much as Isaac"
21:13 "He and his descendants were loved by God"
and
25:9 "And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him "
indicating he had repented, according to the Torah, and presumably the Quoran as well.
As expected he has rather high standings in the Quoran, but i am not very well versed in that.
It does state Ishmael built the Kaaba together with Abraham though,
Also he is to have repented and prayed five times a day instead of Isaacs 3, the Moslems contimue to do so to this day...

Anyway, if he is "loved by god" (and Abraham), and "god is with him", who are we to blame him?
