Sounds cool, but wouldn't that be a bit hard for a strike plate?

I saw an old EB the other day that must have been made in the 30'/40s.  It had a mother of peal or abbalony (SP?)strike plate. I think a turtle shell would be great.  It had a plain leather wrapped handle for shooting off the hand and bone nocks on the ends.  Go for it Gopher, sorry I don't know where you'd get turtle.  Our golf course has a lot around a ball eating pond in the summer.
