Colorado Springs archery shop
«

My buddy that I just got started into Traditional is heading to Colorado Springs for school, he'll be there for 6 weeks.
I told him to make sure he takes his bow and definately shoot the range on the Academy (Peterson AFB).
I'm wondering about archery shops in that area....any advice from locals here???
Last time I was there I visited a shop called Golden Arrow...I think. Not sure if that place is still open.
So, any inputs on places to shoot/visit for him?

Ya know if he is going to NCOA he will be doing more partying then shooting.
When I was there I couldn't find a lot of Trad shops. Plenty of shops for compound guys though. I will say that there are some awesome trails in the mountains that I went stumping in. Have him call one of the ranger stations out there and he can get a bunch of maps.

Yep, he's going to NCOA. He's lucky, I had to go to Keesler :( so I did alot more drinking than shooting!
I know the Academy had an awesome range setup, 4 outdoor ranges with 3D on Tuesdays...not sure if they still have it.

Check out the Archery Hut (See link)just north of Peterson AFB. Nice indoor range for bad wx days. I just visited my son at stationed at Peterson several months ago and shot the indoor range. The range also sell day passes for the USAF Academy range if you do not want to buy a yearly membership. We shot at the Academy several times, nice ranges.

I'll pass that link on...thanks!
Last time I was there and went and talked to the Club manager at the range and told him me and a couple guys would be there for 2 weeks of class.
I asked about a temp membership....he said how about $5, of course we said yes and thank you.
It was a very good time....I can't remember if we learned anything. :D

Used to be a guy by the name of Gary Hill that had a shop in the Springs, but he died a couple years ago. I don't know if anyone else picked up the shop though. Check the phone book.

Bob's in castle rock is the only retail outlet for Herb Meland Pronghorns. But he is taking about closing for good. He still has several Pronghorns to sell though, that might keep him open for a while. I was just down there and bought an all zebrawood pronghorn that I need to post pics of (stunning and very fast). They usually have few people hanging around on saturday morning but he doesn't have a range, we just shoot down the front of the counter when were trying out bows.

Guys
My brother in law now owns the Archery Hut mentioned above and he has a Trad league one night a week and recently started carrying some used Trad bows and might be carrying a line or two of new bows that are made by local bowyers soon. He shoots a widow longbow when he isn't competing, but his shop is mostly compound related. Tell him his brother in law with the "Damn Recurve" sent ya.

Bob's in Castle Rock....last I checked (I'm usually in about every 3rd Saturday...would go this Sat but I'm going to CTAS banquet) is closing his retail operation at the end of the month (Feb, 2009). As I understand, he'll be continuing a mail order business for the near future. Great guy and great inventory.

a short drive away is Canon City Arrow Company (in Canon City,) which has some trad stuff, as well as an indoor range.
