*&#@^% Coyotes again!!!!
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:09:00 PM »
Last year I posted a pic of a yote that came into my backyard on Feb 5th in the middle of the day.  So I check the trail cam the other day, almost a year later, and lo and behold.....3 days from being 1 exactly 1 year, I got anoth daytime yote pic.  Here's the original pic...notice the date and time.

Now fast forward 1 year and I get this one.....

Interesting in that a full year has gone by and this is the only other daytime yote pic that my trail cam captured (and it's on 24/7).  All the other yote pics I get are at night.

I need to quit my day job and start hunting these things......

Nice pics, pretty coyote. He looks a little thicker than what we have here in South LA. Maybe just more fur? One of those trees back and to the left of the yote would be just right for a climber . . . .

I know a lot of people can't stand coyotes, but those two are a couple of beautiful animals.

I was gonna say the same.  The ones I've run across out here in the AZ desert look mighty scrawny compared to him.  :D   That's a nice lookin' pooch.

They love those kitties and ankle-biters. That might explain the daytime movements: while all the suburbanites are at work, the yotes just ease into town and grab a quick lunch. Smart critters.

Or maybe we ought to learn a little more about global warming.    :readit:

A few months ago two road killed coyotes turned up behind the Target store within a couple weeks. The other night on the news people were complaining about their lapdogs becoming coyote chow and I can say for sure, its very rare to see housecats in my yard anymore. On the bright side, the fur is still prime!

There was a coyote holding up traffic this morning on the interstate here in Indy.  Seems it was standing on top of a median wall dowtown and folks were afraid it would jump into traffic.  Wildlife officials were trying to coax it away from the interstate.

Nice pics Steve.  You know, you can hunt coyotes at night.
Take a kid hunting!

'Yotes are one of the truely amazing critters.  With everyone out to get 'em, they keep doing better and better.  I think they're great.  I like to call and hunt them (tough with a bow too), but I like to watch them too.  One thing about them, they are sharp.  You MAY get one shot.  Don't plan on a follow up, and don't bother hunting the same one from the same spot again.  If I could get a bird dog as smart as a coyote, or use a coyote as one, I'd be set.  Probably have a hard time getting him to drop the bird though.

Eastern yotes are bigger than the western species. They say the eastern has some red wolf gene in it. I love dogs so naturaly yotes interest me. A touchy subject when it comes to deer hunters, but they have a place too.
IMHO - these daylight yotes are from a breeding pair looking to fatten the up the expecting mother & pups.

I would trap a few each year if I could, just to keep the local coyote population in check. Coyotes have their place, too,as was stated above and they`re real nice furbearers. They make nice quivers, hats, jackets or blankets and are easy to braintan. Winter fur is top notch! Coyotes are a well underrated natural resource, imho.
