Question about String Life?
«
on:
March 14, 2007, 06:33:00 PM »
Does anyone have any thoughts about the life expectancy of Bow Srings? I replace mine every year and I shoot approximately 150 arrows per week. I had a string break last night and I am wondering if they should be replaced after 5000 shots or whatever. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom:
I shoot about as many arrows as you and have had strings last for years. My concern would be where it broke! If in the loops I'd check you string grooves on the limbs, could be something sharp, a lam starting to seperate. If it broke under the serving could be serving was wound too tight. Did it break completely or just a few strands, if the latter could be string improperly made, such as too much pressure on just a few strands and they finally gave way.

Thanks Bob. The string broke about three inches below the wrap (where the string meets the loop). Not sure if I am making myself clear on where it broke. This is the first time that a string ever broke on me and the worst part was that a friend was trying out the bow. It scared the hell out of me!
