Keith,

I shoot tapered POC arrows from my ST recurve with 63 or 64# limbs at my draw of 29.75". Shafts are 90-94# from Rogue River, 30.5" BOP. I have some footed barrel-tapered hexspine shafts that I got from Bob Burton that I am going to try - finished weight should be about 775 gr with a 125 gr BH. My POCs average about 615 gr.

Mine should be ready any day now.

OK, I'll tell my Silvertip story and solicit suggestions. My original Silvertip circa 91 broke in the handle around 95. Dave made a new one, a great job but it was no longer a Paul original. Then years later the limbs delaminated. So now my silvertip in 100% Windauer. Not a problem it's a great bow and I just killed a 7 point with it 3 weeks ago. But the sentimental guy in me,saved the old Paul Schafer limbs---Question-should I save and display them, discard them or offer them up to the fire pit as sort of a ceremonial letting go. Thoughts?

alligatordond, I still have my original Schafer...the handle is in great shape but I can see where the limbs are cracked and showing water damage at the fade-outs...it still shoots but I know it's only a matter of time! Once they split, I'd like to use the remnants to make some knife handles and maybe some tip overlays for another Silvertip...hard to display a bow that was made for the Timber!!!

Yeah, Think I'll save them. I forgot to add that the tip overlays are dall sheep horn Paul said he found that was a winter kill.I do like Bob's idea of knife handles or new overlays. Maybe a bow rack for the OTHER Silvertip's. You know , my Silvertips are like mistress's-  I can't let my wife find out about them. Do you have any idea what a new Silvertip costs in Carats???

Not to prolong this thread, or to veer from the topic, but if any of you Silvertip shooters are going to Baltimore's Treaditional Classic in May, we all ought to get together and get a "Team Silvertip" picture taken, and send it to Dave and Beth.  I will provide the camera and have the picture taken and enlarged, and send to them and any of us who want one.

Let me know if anyone is game for this!

After a search I found this thread. I've just finished reading every post.  I enjoyed the testimonials and of course the pictures that were still viewable.   I have a ST due in April, 2011. I haven't settled on all the woods but I know I want FF, 58", LH, 46# @ 26", antler treatments, checkered grip, and medium grip.  I'm hoping Beth and Dave come up with some highly figured Macassar to "flare" a rosewood dymonwood riser with stained, quilted limb veneers. Although those Camphor burl limbs on this thread sure look good.

A Trad Ganger has sent me one of his Schafers to tide me over while I wait.  When I'm not traveling I shoot that loaner multiple times daily.  Thanks Billy

This is 60" and 51 @ 28", and FF compatible

The tips are Moose and the woods are RSW riser and Camphor burl on the limb faces. Bow is smooth, quiet and fast.
This is the 2010 PBS lottery bow I won.
