What's up Doc?
« on: March 15, 2007, 07:07:00 PM »
Tippit,
So while you were living it up with G1 at Texas Sweat (and drinking all the Tecate), I was putting the finishing touches on this for you:

4" blade (clay-coated and etched) claro walnut burl handle, mosaic pin, brass guard.
By the time you get to read this I'll be heading down to TX with G2... I'll try to get a better picture of the knife - hopefully in use!  :D   It'll be heading your way as soon as I get back.

Time to finish packing...

Very nice!!!  That's the first knife that I've seen you use a mosaic pin for the handle.  Very nice touch!  I really like the shape and size of that blade.  Nice hunk of wood too.  Well Done!

Dang it Jamie!  Call me "sir" one more time and I'll drive out there and, well, probably get a sound thrashing, but I'll land a few too!    :campfire:

Brent, nope, this is some claro walnut I had.  It's real gorgeous stuff in person, but it's much less dense than the quilted walnut you gave me.  I had forgotten about that when I did the handle... the balance is just forward of the guard instead of just behind it.  The last one I did with this wood I added some lead at the base of the tang to compensate.

Marblesonac, I've used the mosaic pins on a bunch of knives.  I've also made a bunch of knives of this style... love the blade shape, love the way the handle feels... now if I could just stop giving them away and keep one for myself!

I hope you like it Doc!  One of these days we really do need to get together and pound some steel together.

Dave, I just got a wedding invite in the mail today... May 19th!  Doesn't look like I'll be able to make up your way in May.  I'm sure y'all will have fun without me!

Aw, it's just another beautiful knife.  Gorgeous blades from Jeremy's workshop are pretty routine.  Ho-hum.  Not!    :wavey:
