Finger Tab Question
« on: March 05, 2009, 09:40:00 AM »
Having been drawn back to shooting a traditional bow a little more than a year ago, I have been wanting to try shooting with a tab. My question is, what would be a nice tab to give it a go with? I have never shot with a tab before, as I learned years ago to shoot with a glove. I am also, at a loss as to know what size (if there is such a thing) of a tab to get to be sure that it will fit my hand? Can anyone give me some ideas as to what would be a nice tab to try out?

Thanks......in advance

Hey Don,
I shoot only with a tab and have had the same problems as far as what size to order.  I would rather order one too big and trim it down then order them too small.  I have a handful of tabs including the blackwidow, the mitt, and a few others.  however all of those are in my backpacks as spares and I only use a single piece of tough leather that was made for me in 1995.  I'm still using that tab and it has a lot of life left in it.  For me a simple piece of leather works great, is cheap, and last forever.

Good luck,

I agree on the leather tab! I picked up some Leather from the local Tandy for $5.00 and cut about 7 tabs from it! Works great, cheap, long lasting not a big deal to trim it up to size or if ya loose one!

A Neet calf hair tab is a good one to try, easy to find and not expensive.  It will come with a finger separator which you can remove if you don't like it.  Match the size to the size glove you wear.  I use a Med, but most wear a Large.  Don't forget left or right.

I switched to a tab last year after talking to some good tournament archers. The one they recommended was the Ultra Lite Elite Cavalier tab. It has held up really well and I shoot quite a bit. The composite front part gives a good line for consistant string placement. No finger pinch as is the case sometimes with other tabs. It has been money well spent.

Angel tab, very similar to Cavalier, get the cordovan one. I need an extra large but I wear a size 16-17 ring. Shawn

I like the Cavalier elite cordovan,The Angel tab and Bateman cordovan tab.

I like the Cavalier and Angel tab more though because they have a shelf or lip where I line the string up with a deep hook on the string.Makes for a consistant alignment of fingers and string and an even pull.

As recommended go with the cordovan it will last very long and is slick on release. The cavalier elite is a great tab that I use for target archery, also the bateman is very good and is my hunting tab.
shoot straight shoot often

I've got two of the Cavalier Elite tabs, the one I use for shooting and the one incase I loose the first one.  My favorite tab out there at the moment.

Thanks guys,

I found the cavalier...and several made of cordovan leather. However, I haven't ran across any Bateman, or Angel tabs. Where might they be sold?
