My buddy just bought an old Bear Kodiak 60" 50@28 Im assuming.  He also got a dozen cedar arrows with broadheads on all of them.  Bow and arrows all cost $21.  Great deal if you ask me!

I swapped out the old string with a new B50 and put some silencers on it and man this thing shoots awsome!!  Its pretty stout for a 50# bow.  It was kept unstrung most of its life other then shooting sessions.  Decent quality some nicks and bumps but who cares.

I took some pics and was hoping you guys could tell me the age of the bow, arrows, and broadheads.

Enjoy!

Did a little flea market/yard saleing this morning and there were no deals like that. Everything archery related I saw was priced like they were pricless family heirlooms. Sweet deal ! !

That's a 1964 Kodiak.  Heck of a deal!  Many people think the '64 was the best shooting Kodiak ever.

Tell your friend to not to bother buying any lottery tickets for a while, he just used up a few years worth of luck.

Nice find indeed!

Awesome. Those yella arras are pretty snazzy too. I would love to see that thing in action.

Those Herters arrows have the Herters four blade broadhead on them.  I used to shoot them when I first started hunting with my dad back in the early 70's. The catalog advertised that they "hit with the shocking power of a .38 special". For a fifteen year old kid that was all I needed to hear. Whatever metal they were made out of, they were absolutley the hardest broadhead to sharpen that I ever attempted.

W0W! Nice stuff. Some people get all the luck.

I'm no expert,but it looks like a 1966 to me. (serial # starting with a #6)

Precurve.....What makes ya say it's a 1964????? (always looking to learn more)

I like the pic with the close-up of the shelf. You can see the wear in the wood from years of shooting. Awesome!  An antique that can actually be used!

Deadbolt

Should these arrows be shot or put away on a shelf?  A few have been shot but some are still brand new never been touched.

And I agree that bow is a real shooter he really lucked out with this thing!!  Thanks for all the info guys!

Everything there is first class. Your friend scored. I'd be tempted to save a couple of arrows and use some for a special hunt. Maybe post a pic of the BH in the collector section just to check.

Tom your Bud sure hit "the Lottery" there!   :readit:   I have heard a '64 is the most desirable Kodiak but even if it's a '66 excellant condition. By the way great snapshots as usual.   :saywhat:   You should get into photography.

George D. Stout

It's a 1964...the 65/66 models were laminated handles...two piece with rosewood stripes.  The 63 (dogleg) and 64 (yours) were the only one piece Kodiaks with the riser cap design.

The 64's will shoot with just about any custom today....better than some, providing all were using dacron.  That bow on the big auction wouldn't stop at $300.00.

The arrows are Herter's with their own Ram-MX4 fourblade heads.  Tough to sharpen but nice heads.

Nice bow. I really think the older Bear bows are really nice. Frank
