Well, me and Faith got back from a HOT week of hunting down in the Terlingua (near Big Bend National Park) and Davis Mountains in far West Texas......
Here's where I camped for 4 days/3nights in Terlingua, did I say it was hot?
I spent most of the days scoping the area for javelina.....haven't seen one yet :(
Although I did find this place that looked like it had pretty good "sign" that I might find one here....but some little fellar on a burro came by and told me that I would have to get off his place because it just didn't look right havin' someone sitting there with a bow and a quiver full of arrows and I was scarin' off all his customers
The rest of the time I spent trying to find a little shade or somewhere out of the sun and do a little varmint calling. I use a Western Rivers electonic caller with a remote, works really good to keep the critters attention away from me and on the call....
I had already called in a couple of foxes when I heard something behind me. I turned and looked and had another fox coming down the rocks straight towards me....I stood up and turned to get a shot at him when he turned like he was going to run....Instead of running though he turned towards me again. I shot him at about 10 or 12 yards with him coming straight towards me. The arrow went in right behind his right front shoulder and came out right in front of his left rear leg.
He ran back up the rocks and disappeared with my arrow....I heard a lot of clicking and thought it was the arrow on the rocks rattling around...
I waited about 15 minutes to give him a little time to calm down and went looking for him....
When I found the arrow, I realized that the "clicking" sound I had heard was this little fella chewing on my arrow to get it out!!!
I had a very good blood trail...
