Hello guys(GALS) Bannock is trappers bread. Here in Quebec most of the Woodsman and trappers know how to cook some. Here is the recipe.

2 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 Cup water

cut shortening into flour and baking powder add salt and blend in water, let rest and form into desired shape and cook it.

We used to do those in Australia and call them "dough boys". If you wrap the bread so it is touching it slides off the stick when done and has a tube down the middle. if you wrapped over the end of the stick it makes a great pouch to pour honey or jelly or just about anything you want into it.
Looks like a great day out. i think I will head out for some time in the woods myself today.
