my wife and i was fortunate enough to have meet some lovely people on the weekend. we were invited to travel to montana and stay with spudwrench (jeff hohn & his wife donna). we talked, shot some arrows, talked some more, had a beautiful dinner, talked some more, shot arrows in his shed till we were sore, then woke up the next day and talked more and shot more arrows. it has been a highlight of our trip here to this part of the world.

a bonus was that my wife was able to try her hand at shooting. many thanks go to another tradganger- bretto, for donating the bow she is using. this bow is a tradgang pass around now. i think my wife is going to want her own bow, she had a blast! so keep your eye out on pow wow later. when we scrape the money together we will get her a bow and this one will be sent to the next person needing a kick start into this great sport.

manys thanks to jeff & donna for having us, we had a great time. talking with you has changed our outlook on our misfortune here in canada.
instead of feeling like failures we now feel we have tried something not many others have the courage to do and have come away with some valuable life lessons.
one being, the only failure in life is not having the courage to follow your dreams out of fear of failing.
oh yeah, thanks for offering the use of your longbow since i don't have my recurve at the moment cause it's away getting repairs.

It's to bad you arrived just as the economy took a plunge and jobs became scarce. The Boom we were in last year this time has turned into a bust.
 It will be short lived,we hope, but for now times are tough.

I'm glad to hear you had a good time in Montana! Your new friends are wise, it's best to have tried and failed than failed to try.
Like I said before, when you make it down this way to visit your brother-in-law give me a call! We'll do some shooting at stumps or hopefully a hog or two (I've made a new connection with private hog land since last we spoke... I'm soon to be in hog heaven I hope!)

well take my oppinion with some salt. it's the first time i've done any shooting with a longbow. the first thing i noticed is that one piece longbows are light! i'm used to shooting a a three piece takedown recurve with a bowquiver. took a while to get used to how light it is. and the grip is nothing like i'm used to. i think i'm a high, palm filled grip kinda guy. but it was smooth to draw and shoot. i definately liked it better than the moose jaw i also tried. straight hill style grips are not for me! it was great to try a few bows and find out what i don't like. i know now that i like recurve style grips. i found also that i was struggling with finding my anchor. not sure if it was just me or because it was a longer bow than i'm used to. i usually have the string touching the outside of my nose at anchor but when i tried to do that it just felt all wrong. i'm wondering if because it was 60" not my normal 58" whether the string angle was putting me out. probably just me.

I understand completely, in fact those are my exact feelings towards heavier full gripped recurves, I just can't seem to get used to them.  I shoot a light smaller gripp longbow much better.  

Sure is fun to try different ones though, lots of fun!!!

Failures (if you need to call them that) are just opportunities to learn period. We don't learn much by what we do right, but we learn lots by trial and error.
