Can anyone tell me what limb tip protectors work best? I am interested in purchasing them for my long bow.

You'll get a lot of different answers here I'm sure.  I've used the rubber kind that you have to slip the string through before you put them on and I didn't like them.  I haven't used the leather ones.  I settled on using the tip off of a rubber baby bottle nipple.  The skin colored ones.  I just cut the tip off of the nipple and slip it on the bow tip.  Easy to get on and off and I never noticed any difference in the how the bow shot.  They don't last as long as the other types but they are cheap and easy to replace and can easily be taken off to prevent moisture from building up under them.

I use the rubber ones you can buy from 3 Rivers or Kustom King or other places for all my Longbows.  I have to trim them a little so they don't interfere with the string, but they have always worked perfect for me.

I like the leather ones, and make my own now. I just think they look better than the rubber ones you can buy.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your advice. I have used the manufactured leather ones, but have had difficulty getting the bow stringer cup over my lower limb tip protector.

I use the rubber ones. I bought mine from a local Trad shop but you can get them from 3 Rivers. I like the ones I have and I put them on both my longbows.

Like "Over and Under" from above, I prefer the rubber tip protectors offered by 3-Rivers and others. Trim them to fit and it helps to moisten the inside before putting them on your bowtips. They will go on a lot easier if you do.

If you do decide on the rubber type and its a bit wet where your hunting you should remove the tip protecter at the end of the day and make sure there's no water trapped inside them that may cause damage the end of your limb.bowdoc

Oh yeah I use tip protecters on the bottom for walking back to camp after a long day.Keeps from wearing the end of your bow off.
OK there really to protect your tip when you lean your bow againest something like a tree it keep the end of the limb from makeing contact with the ground and rubbibg the finish off or worse.bowdoc

I agree with smoke, but Bowdoc has a good idea also.
