Time for another longbow
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:10:00 PM »
Ok, it's time to add another longbow to the stable.  Over the winter I've been enjoying my longer bows, so here's kinda what I am looking for...

1.  64" - 68" long
2.  D shaped strung profile, or close to it
3.  a bowyer who doesn't mind black glass
4.  NO pistol grips.  I would prefer either a riser with enough meat that I can do some reshaping or a bowyer willign to do a dished grip for me.

I said "another" longbow instead of a "new" longbow because I've got nothing against buying used.

Anyone want to recommend a bow or bowyer?

Before you buy, look at stjoeriverbows.com.  I believe he has a test shoot program.

Howard Hill. If I had seen the description in a for sale ad, that's the first bow that comes to mind.

If you don't mind a 62"er I can tiller out a blank for you.  You do the handle and finish.  I've seen your work at MOJAM years ago and know your capable of good finish work.  Chad

Scared me with this post.  I know you were trying out some skinny strings.  As far as your question, I'm not as familiar as some out there for the d-shaped bows.  I will say the few mohawk bows that I've seen have been very nice bows and would probaly fill your needs very well.

Staying within what you described as the bow your looking for I would go with a Northern Mist.  Steve's bows are fantastic and you wont find a nicer guy to deal with.
