NEW BOW?
« on: March 24, 2009, 09:47:00 PM »
If you can buy any recurve bow right now what would it be? I do not want this to be a debate on this bow is better than that bow, but a recommendation!

A couple of monthes back my favorite recurve, that I killed my first traditional kill with broke. Now I am looking for a replacement and wanted a little imput. I am planning on buying in the next couple and want to look at as many bows as possible before buying.

   Thanks!

I ran over my first Border Swift. If I somehow broke the replacement, I would buy another Border. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of another recurve! Biased. Yep!  :)

What was your favorite recurve?

Black Widow PTF X, Curly Bubinga, Kingwood or some other nicely figured dark wood, 56" long 52 lbs @ 28". But the same bow in Graybark would be just fine (for me)

Look at Abe Penner's Cari-bow company of recurves (he makes a mean longbow too but you said recurve).  He makes a one-piece and three piece that are as good as anyones.  They are smooth to draw, shoot where you point, and he is a fine man to deal with.  i can only speak for  Abes cause everything else i own is a longbow of some form or fashion.  There are many good bowyers out there to choose from. He is the only one i can speak about firsthand.

If it was your favorite, why not buy another?   I found a used Super Shrew that I fell in love with...so much so that I sold off other bows to purchase a new one.  If you find a fit, why mess with success?  Good luck and let us know what you decide.    ;)

Assenheimer, I shot a bunch of bows at a trad. shoot and it was the nicest bow I shot. And not a bad price.

Everyone has a different favorite. Mine is the one I'm shooting this week. You must look deep within yourself grasshopper.

Bob Lee take-down is what I would get.

Shane if you can hold out a month for the LTB shoot you check out a lot of bows in person.  I doubt they'll be many vendors there but I suspect just about anyone there will let you try their bow out.
