Got a new/old bow ...pics inside...
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:20:00 AM »
Ok i bought this bow from a real nice member on here.
I would like to get some opinions on what you guys think it is , how old it is and what you guys think i should do with it.
Its a Osage self bow that is said to be made in the 1940's.
The story goes it hung in on a barber shop wall forever and this oldtimer walks into the shop one day and tells the present owner/ barber he has wanted that bow since he was a kid. The barber proceeds over to the wall takes the bow down and gives it to the the oldtimer and says "want no more" and thats the name of the bow "want no more".
I was just wondering how old you guys think this bow  realy is? Could it realy date that far back? The leather wrapped handle is pretty fragile so i thought i would remove it and replace it with a new one since i plan to hunt with it. The performance of the bow is shockingly exceptional. Its quiet, fast, smoothe as butter and has little to no hand shock.
Just wanted some insight.Pics are from a cell phone sorry.
Matt

I love old bows and the color of that old osage is outstanding! Are there no markings as to the builder or date?
I date and initial all of my bows so if any survive into the future the owner will know when and by whom it was made.
Be careful not to over stress this bow. Old bows have to be retaught to bend or fatal damage can occur!
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
