Great offer, Andy.  Kasey, I can tell you from experience that if you are sure it is a gift that will be used and appreciated you will not regret that move.

I got a few 70's recurves on craigslist for $35-50 bucks for my dad and brother. Not junk either. Hunting weight ben pearson and wing. anyway, get one of those for yourself if you want to give the nicer one to dad or give it to dad with arrows and the whole setup. They shoot fine and the gesture is still good. As a Dad, I can say that what we like to is as as much for our kids as we can anyway.
"Don't believe everything you think" - bumper sticker

"Savage Blaster" - 50@31 - 63" (recurve I made with Steve Savage)
Firefly TD longbow - 50@31 - 63"
7 Lakes double shelf from a blank - 45@31 - 66"
Trident ILF w Blackmax carbons - 42@31
