I was wondering if any of you have sharpened Australian "Black Stump" broadheads with the KME broadhead sharpener? I have a fellow asking if it will work for them and since I don't have any of these heads myself, I can't give him a definite "Yes" or "No" answer.

The ferrule on these broadheads extends very near the tip of the head and from the pictures, I think there may be stone clearence issues with that area.

Alternately, does anyone have one of these heads that they would be willing to sell me? Thanks guys,

Ron

They should work. The Black Stump looks a little like a vented Magnus 2-blader.

hey ron, i have some. i can send you some. PM me.

this is a blackstump unsharpened. they are a glue on head and come in three models. 130gr (shown) 125gr vented (as shown only vented) and 115gr "ironbarks" (scaled down version) google blackstump broadheads. great people to deal with. they would be real cheap for folk from USA with the exchange rate.

shapened up

notice how the ferrule goes right to the point. they are the stongest head i've ever used. they are my alltime favourite head. never ever wrecked one. they are 1 1/8" wide.

Thanks Ben, Ozy, and Andy.

They do look like very well made heads but, the way the ferrule comes right to the tip makes it hard to imagine how you would sharpen them with anything and not grind the tip of the ferrule down?

Ozy are you still here in the US? Thought I read that you had returned to OZ?

Andy, I know you have a BH sharpener... Do you also have a Black Stump head you could try it on for me? Thanks again guys,

Ron

yeah still in canada. the guide we were going to work for threw us a life line, after we told him we were going home. working round the farm here now preping for spring hunts for board and in lieu of a black bear hunt. so we are going to be here till june minimum now.

ron- what angle does your sharpener work at? i wouldn't have thought that it would be shallower than the angle from the edge to the ferrule. if you get stuck let me know and i can send you some.

Clint,
I'm guessing (because I haven't done a Black Stump head myself) that the BH sharpener will sharpen these at around 25 degrees.

The Muzzy Phantom is another head that the ferrule goes almost all the way to the tip on, and the stone does just "kiss" the very tip of the ferrule on those.

I see that the file or stone did quite a bit of "kissin" on the ferrule in the pic of the sharpened head too!    :)  . So I guess the sharpener should be okay for them... as long as they're filed down a bit first. Thanks again,

Ron

Looks like a perfect head to sharpen on a Li'l Shaver Broadhead sharpener. Don't know about the KME.

The Lil Shaver is just an crude approximation of the KME. It is less expensive than the KME, but you get what you pay for, and the KME is definitely the better system. Not that the Lil Shaver is not a good product -- it is -- just not the quality and precision of the KME.
