How much weight can be taken off a bow?

I have searched a number of post but I have a specific ?.
I have a horne combo recurve.58@28
How much can I seriously expect to have the weight reduced to?
Is 6-8 pounds too much?
I'm going to get Mark to do it but just wondering if anyone has some rock solid results and experiences?

8 pounds is bunch 5# is generally what you are going to get. Speak to the bowyer he will know best.

Check out Rich Lopez/droptine59, who is a sponsor here. He has developed his own method of taking weight off, and could likely get 8 pounds.

Well curves are harder then Longbows to reduce.  You can't really trap a curve to take an weight without loosing torsional stability.  So the short answer is talk to Mark.  He will let you know how much is in the bow.  And is the person you should have do the work.

We had a bow that was resold and the guy decided to have it reduced in weight but by someone els.  They took 10#s off and basically ruined the bow.

Always talk to your bowyer before you do anything.

Yeah Mark is definitly going to do the work and I'm going to talk to him tomorrow about it.

But i'm sure yah have all had the same problem...Get an idea on friday evening and want an answer then haha... I think bowyers should be on call!
 Nah they do great work for very little hats off to'em!

Mike is right on, talk to the person who made the bow. I have a longbow that use to belong to the bowyer,I called him and asked him if he could take it down anymore when I get older and don,t want to pull the weight, he told me he left  nothing on the bow to take off, said he built this one for him to get all the performance he could out of it.

there are some bowyers who use certin formula's glass to wood and those can not be reduced much at all.I agree with everyone and talk to the bowyer he will know.Myself 3-4 pounds is about max I have ever removed from any bow myself.bowdoc
