Koa is fairly soft for a riser.

I will be adding some layers of glass internally to the riser so it will stiffen it tremendously. No worries then!

Sounds like that will be beautiful.

My local wood supplier has some four in slabs of curly and mottled Koa at $36 bf. One slab would be over $300 and you'd still lose some cutting out the premium wood. Expensive stuff, but beautiful.

Soft?  I cut into one piece an it seems hard as a rock, granite not shale.

It burns as bad or worse than purpleheart or chechen.
