Need advice on carbon arrows
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:22:00 AM »
I would like some input on which carbon arrows I should use, I`am shooting a 30"Easton 2018 weighs 560 grains with 125 gr.field tip they shoot pretty good, I got some GT 55-75 weigh 400 gr. they don`t shoot to good, would like to shoot a heavier carbon, what would I get? I shoot 50# at 29"

I would just add tip weight to the 55/75 to make them heavier. I am shooting 350 grains on the tip for a total arrow weight of 670 out of a 55# bow. You are shooting a 50# bow you should shoot at least 500 grain arrow IMO. Good luck..Henry

I shoot a similar set-up and found 5575 to be too stiff, if the extra point weight doesn't work you may want to try some 3555 shafts. I just made that switch and the arrows fly like darts.

I switched from a 55-75 to 35-55 and it really made a difference. I left them full length and shoot a 125 tip. I had to cut one down and it took a 175 tip to make it fly right again.

3 rivers has weight systems on page 35 or you can go to black widow for goldtip weights.
If you cut up your wife's french leather purse to make a tab, does that make you a redneck?

Forget the  the GTs they do not hold up very well and are light to begin with. CE Heritage 150 they weigh 10 gpi. so a 30" shaft would be 300 grains. Depending on your bow a 50 or 100 grain brass insert with 125 grain point would get ya where ya want to be. Shawn

I'd look into the failure rates between GT, CE, Beeman etc. Although we do not put as much strain on an arrow as a compound results with both compound and trad bow will be relevant. In my opinion I wont shoot carbon express arrows after watching one of my friends shoot an arrow through the back of his hand after as it broke during his shot. Everybody has different experiences and it very well could be a Ford vs. Chevy thing but there are results out there.

I would shoot the Easton Axis N-Fused Carbon arrows.  I have had great luck with them.  I shoot them with a 100 grain brass insert and a 200 grain head for a total arrow weight of 550 grains out of a 49 lb Black Widow recurve.  They shoot bullet holes through paper and pack a punch.  Give them a try I doubt you will be dissapointed.

I agree with Shawn . I recently bought some gold tips and they don`t take a beating. I`m sure they`l hold up on critters but the don`t do as good as cedars stumping.I have used the carbon
express terminater hunters and they are just about indistructable. I prolly won`t be getting anymore gold tips.

I am shooting 275 grains up front of a 35/55 29" shaft and they fly perfectly.bow is 54# at 27" Apex Predator longbow.RC

Having a archery shop and shooting many/all carbons, unless they are/were footed,I've had them ALL fail at one time or another.Right now I'm having good success with a IF GoldTip.This past wknd at a 3-D shoot I bounced 2 off boulders w/absolutely NO damage.Well I did flatten the points.  :D

cx 150's or 250's and play with point wt they are very tough shafts and when the tips get frazzeled or you hit something hard and they split on the end just foot them with a 2216 aluminum and continue to shoot them good shafts!!Ralph
