i'll be using my bob lee recurve. spot'n'stalk. 54# or maybe 69# if i feel confident with it. GT carbons with 350gr upfront. 615gr and 780gr respectively.

what's your poison?
Thick fog slowly lifts
Jagged peaks and hairy beast
Food for soul and body.

I am going to have a go with the Shrew. Spot and stock for me always. Just my point of view but I think baiting isn't fair chase....again only my opinion.

The challenge of the wind in a spot and stock situation is so critical....then there is cover and range of ability.

I think it's one of the most challenging ways to hunt period.

Anyway I will be using the new carbons and some Magnus II sharpened to my liking.

Season opens next week here, but with all the snow we will see how long it is before they get their idy bidy eyes open.

Looking forward to it though....still 3-4 feet of snow in the bush, but some of the hills are bareing up....just need real bears now

1972 Red Wing Hunter, 48#@28. I barely draw 27"s. Arrow= CX 150 with 300 grains up front. Tusker Concords, right bevel, tanto tip, for a total weight of 615 grains.

Side note....this is my Daddy's bow that he killed his first bear with in 1973 a week after I was born. He'll be with me on the ground over bait videoing me do it just like he did 36 years ago.

Try your spot and stalk and see how far It gets ya here In the thick big woods of Northern Minnesota. ;)  If I'm lucky enough to get drawn for a Mn bear license this year I'll either be using my 14 year old 61 pound Windwalker T/D Recurve or another T/D Recurve of some kind, haven't decided on what brand yet I'm buying. My arrows that I'll be using this year will be a 1st for me. I've always shot 2216's and have had great luck with them but I plan on getting some 340 FMJ's here shortly and give these a try so I can achieve a higher FOC with good arrow flight. If everything goes right I should have a finished arrow weight of about 700 grains with an FOC of about 23%. My arrow will be tipped with a big 3 blade Snuffer.

I forgot to mention this will be a fall hunt If I'm drawn. No spring bear season In Mn and yes It will be over bait.

It will be my first year pursuing black bears. I plan on using my 60# Damon Howatt Hunter recurve with a Carbon Express arrow weighing around 615 grains with 315 up front and a grizzly broadhead. I might try predator calling from a tree stand or trying to stalk them in the berry fields I have seen them in before. Should be exciting!

Felix
We do a little spot and stalk, mostly on black bear.  For the most part we predator call brownies and use a double bull ground blind.  Our biggest problem is where we hunt 50% of our call ins are sows with cubs.  It is really problematic when the cubs get curios about the blind.   Spot and stalk is tough because of the dense foliage and the lack of flat terrain.  If you were thinking of coming here I'd stick to the coastal hunts where you can stalk on the beaches.  PM me if you want, I could get you some info.  Bill
