Apex Longbow is tuned and ready
« on: April 09, 2009, 01:07:00 AM »
Been playing with the longbow Marty built for me and think I got her right.18 yards with 2018`s and goldtips. One of the gold tips took a beating. Now if the water would drop so I could go pig hunting.RC

Looks like you have her ready!

I got on a big boar on Thu, but couldn't get closer than 40 yards.  He was traveling, instead of feeding.

Monday I went to my normal place and there was 6-7' of water over the road!  I had to hunt up by the sign in box.  I did manage to get within 12 yards of an even bigger boar, but couldn't get the right shot opportunity before he winded me.  I guess the eatin sized hogs are stranded on the high islands.  I'm gonna take the boat on Monday!

Great shooting there. Where I live that is a whole lot of water. Have you started building an Ark yet?

Looks like your ready RC, how the bow feel as far as smoothness and any hand shock?

Nice bow. What happens to the pigs when the water gets like that?Do they get concentrated on dry ground or do they still swim and roam?

What are your specs? Looks like you are ready. What's your bow weight, draw length, arrow spine, etc.?

Looks like you need SCUBA equipment to hunt there.

64" straight end longbow,54 @ 27 with 2018`s and 175 grains of snuffer or magnus I on the end.

Ron the bow is smooth and I have never noticed any handshock from a Hill style bow because I grip them like your supposed too and shoot over 10-12 grains per pound. My next one will be 66" for forgiveness.

Izzy, The pigs hit the thick woods in the upland or islands in the swamp. When the river starts to drop I`ll take the boat and get after`m.A lot of folks have drowned on the river like it is now.You have to run the boat in the tops of trees in the swamp to get to the high hills. Imagine how hard it is to keep up with where you are in a dry swamp that is huge....Now add a boat and 30 feet of water and a current that will suck you under a stump...I`ll wait.RC

Good shootin' RC!  I was in Edison two weeks ago and a creek that is normally about 10 feet wide was flooded so much I couldn't really see the other side through the woods.  It looked like a raging river.  Good news is that the pigs were high and stalkable.  Couldn't get the job done in the time we had though.

Can't wait to see the first critter you take with that APex Predator.

I agree on the length Robert.  My "Bloody Marsh" bow is awesome, but a little more finicky at 63" NTN.  I shoot my 66" better.  Like you, I draw these longbows to 27".

Try Easton for a part time job just to stay in arrows shooting like that. Nicely done with straight in groups too. Apparent your Marty Missleflinger can zing em pretty good. He's got talent. Chronoed it yet? Sure easy to look at.

Thanks guys!  I really like them, and think they shoot as well as any straight longbow available.  To hear Robert say it, means a lot more to me.  He knows his longbows.  He will put blood on it soon!
