New bow in progress for Scott
«

My buddy Scott has my first R/D longbow, and now I am building him my first hybrid. I am shooting for 55-60@28 and 62" NTN. Hopefully I will come close! She has osage and wenge in the riser, action boo core, and bamboo limb faces. He wanted to stain the bamboo, and this is what we came up with. It's Tandy leather dye in dark brown, but it looks more green to me. What do you guys think?

Yes, broketooth I will be using osage and wenge for overlays.
Here is the new form I will be using for the layup.

Looks like the bamboo was not heat treated. May I ask why you did not use wood stain like MinWax stain? I just used the "special walnut" stain on a bamboo fly rod I am making. Makes the boo a nice brown tone yet I see alot of grain.

We tested several different colors, and this is what he liked best. I use the leather dye a lot, because it's what I have on hand. It works well.

Looks good! Any problem with glues or finishes on cane after using leather dyes?
Also check out Jeff Fultz's Cane Browntoner here

Works great, especially when I need to make a new tip for an old rod and have to match the color.
For colors other than brown, Aniline Dyes work great without messing with the canes ability to be glued or take a finish.

Alright folks. I've started this thread anew over in the "Bowyers Bench" sub-forum.
