Spring means one thing "BEAR"
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:23:00 PM »
Just thought I would let you guys know that the first baits are going out this weekend. We had a lot less snow this year, so hunting should start earlier than normal.I built a new bow this winter and I'm very anxious to try it out on a big Saskatchewan bruin.I will keep you fellows posted on the season as it progresses,Dell.

They are starting to come out here.  Lots of snow up high, they should be concentrated down low for the first few weeks.  Opens up next week!

Well still tons of snow here...but I'm ready. 3-4 feet in the bush and plenty on the hillsides yet, but the hay maker is starting to do her job now. Daylight till 9:30 already.

I'm gettin psyched myself.  I got a good one last year so not really feeling the need again for myself...but I've got a hankerin to put someone else on one for sure.  Course if I see a 6 footer...all bets are off...I just like hikin around lookin for-em.  No bait in MT. My season will go like this hopefully.  Except maybe someone else smilin this time...

1. Haul the camper to bear country....

2. Hike uphill a lot and glass some green meadows...

3. Hopefully spot some bears eventually

4. Stalk-em

5. Maybe come home on top of the world.

6. Party Begins along with saving for Taxidermy bill.LOL.

THat's pretty country Randy - looks like the yukon where I hunt. Glassing and stocking is the way to go if the country allows for it...someitmes in the trees it's hard, but look for green grass early and they will be there at some point.

Check the wind and cover and start the slow process of getting close.

Beaut of a bear too and the fam is nice to have with you.

You said it Jerry.  That green is the key and will pull bears in from a long ways.  Took me 5 yrs or more of runnin around before I found some real good "spots".  Course I'm mainly a weekend warrior. I'd love to see some Yukon pics Jer Bear. You could E-mail em to me if it's easier.
Randy.

That bear is a brute Randy ,even by Saskatchewan standards. And to take him by spot and stalk makes it even more awsome. The bush in this country is way to big and thick to do much ground hunting.Good luck on your 2009 hunt Randy and let us know how you make out.

Nice pics Randy. We'll be doing that up in AK next month except we'll be starting on the beaches.

Good luck
It's all about how you attach the bacon to your pack.  Once you get that right, you'll have no problem finding the bears.

***

Seriously though, it's good to hear about spring bear hunts still happening in Canada.  The Ontario bear hunt went away and now we have bear problems.

Funny how bears lose their fear of people, eh?

I hope to set up for a bear hunt this fall but my wife isn't so keen on bear meat.  Perhaps I can slip it into the freezer as a "second" deer?

Good luck on your hunt.

Good luck to all of you guys chasing them.  I finished my game room, this summer, and I've got a spot reserved for a bear mount......or a full body deer.

Living where I do, I've never had the desire to hunt them very much, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldnt love to have the mount/accomplishment to reflect on.

Sometime before I'm 50.  I'd love to do it.

Again....best of luck to all of you going after the bears.  I can't wait to see those trad. bows lying across the bellies......in front of the smiling hunters.

Jeff
