My Homemade Arrow Saw-REMODIFIED-Pics
« on: April 12, 2009, 09:01:00 AM »
Okay, first of all, this was a design I got off of this website from a fellow TradGangster who goes by "ryped". So I give all credit to him for the idea. So, thank you ryped! I was borrowing my work buddies' arrow saw all of the time, but now, no more! I am using my dad's Dremel type tool made by Sears, though, because he was never using it.

Here it is:

Go for it, Jamie! I'm using the reinforced metal cutting wheels I got at Sears. You get 5 for about 8 bucks. They don't break as easily as the thinner wheels.

I built mine almost exactly the same except I doubled the thickness @ the insert end to keep the shaft square with the nock end and a block underneath to keep it paralell to the bottom. I figured this would insure getting a clean square cut. The back/vertical board on mine is also cut out in the middle so I can just lay the shaft down and run my hand across it to spin it while it's cutting. Wish I would have thought of the clamp idea, mine has screws in the block. Might have to modify it next time I use it.

Always cool to build your own.  Question:  It does not look like you can cut them square?  Nock looks higher than the tip????

Yes, the nock end is a little higher than the other end. I will rotate the arrow and just cut on one side so it should do just fine.

Okay, dang it! Now you got me to thinkin' I should modify it so the insert end is level with the nock end!   :readit:   I was already thinkin' it, so, now that it has been mentioned, I'm gonna have to go ahead and make it right, since I won't rest 'til I do anyhow.   :banghead:   Jeez, thanks alot!          :biglaugh:      :p

It's hard to argue with sergio but I can use my dremel for cutting shafts to shaping my homemade TD handles to cutting out knife blanks. I guess I'm just to dang frugal but that is good way to go sergio!

Okay, KSdan, I took your advice and modified my arrow saw where the blade is. Now it is the same height and position as the nock end. I feel mucho better now.       :biglaugh:  Really, though, I was already thinkin' the same thing as you were but I just didn't wanna go messin' with it again. But you got me to thinkin' I should, so I did!

Here it is after modification:

Looks like a winner to me Doug.  Funny you posted this, I used my saw to cut dozen arrows for my dad today.

Very good.

Did not mean to critique your previous project. . . I was just curious.

But I do think you'll be happier with the true cut. You are ingenious.

The only problem I'd have with that saw is making sure the cut was even.  Seems as if it would cut at a very slight angle as there's no way to true up the shaft to the blade.

I'm glad I saw your post that gave me this idea, ryped. It was just in time, too. I saw yours and I said, "Wow, this is just what I need to make!". So, I did, thanks to your pics.

Ah heck, Dan, I was just funnin' around with ya there. I took your advice on it and now I'm glad I did. I never would've been satisfied with it the way it was. I just needed someone to show me something I already new anyway. I just didn't wanna mess with it anymore at the time. Thanks dude!   :)
