Western KY Hunting ?
« on: April 12, 2009, 10:01:00 PM »
Thinking of hunting KY instead of ILL since times are tough and ILL costs me and my son $900 for non-rez tags. If I read the regs right I think I can hunt for $190 and my 13yr old can hunt for $25 ???

Can anyone tell me about public land in West KY ? Especially anything around the counties that border the Ohio river ? Thanks for the help folks !

I wish I could, I live and hunt in south central KY, near Tenn. line, lots of free hunting around these parts. I will ask around, see what I can come up with.

I've hunted Land Between the Lakes several times.  Always had plent of deer to hunt.  Lots of turkey too.  LBL is National Forest land.

Guys,
Thanx for the info thus far, keep it coming !

Does anyone know if some of these WMA's have farming on them like the ones we hunted in ILL do ? Some of the WMA's are just huge patches of mature woods with nothing to help funnel and pattern the deer movement.

I have heard good things in the past about Ballard WMA close to Paducah as well as the Peabody lands ?

Got a question for anyone in Arkansas.   I am in sherwood.  I just moved here, and I am looking for some private land to hunt wild hogs.  Does any one know of anybody willing to let me do this?  Does anyone want to help me?  It would be greatly appreciated.

Check Higginson-Henry WMA.  Most WMA's have at least some land activity.  This may just be clearing but could also be food plots, dove fields and the like.  Your best to choose a few in the area you want to hunt and call the manager.  They'll know what's waht.  There are lots of big deer in Western KY but public land is public land and you are always subject to other people being in your spot.
Take a kid hunting!

Search for Dorris on the Tadgang list.  He lives in Nortonville in the area you talking about.  Great guy, I think he can help you out.
